Is it safe to talk about bent coppers?

Just the latest two examples of those who are supposed to be totally honest and trustworthy being caught out.
And the sad thing is if they stand up in court they are automatically believed.

More error of judgment than corrupt and I believe both officers have admitted their guilt, certainly the Diplomatic protection officer has and the other has already resigned

Ok, so it doesnt look great for these two I suppose, but im certain that there are many out there that completely outnumber the the few who lose their way.

I ahve been on the wrong side of lying policemen who will happily stand up in court under oath and tell bare faced lies..

But yes.. theres a lot more good ones than bad ones:)

No problem at all discussing the incidents (once all the evidence is known is obviously better though), but I have to call you on the point where you say if they stand up in court, then they are automatically believed. If you're under that impression, then I think you should go and watch some trials, as the witnesses who get the roughest ride are often the police officers, so the defence barrister can try and pick the slightest hole in their evidence, therefore attempting to discredit everything else they say.

Mitchell lost his job because the police were believed!
The police were lying as has now been proved. Unfortunately that doesn't get him his job back. He was fortunate that he has friends with influence and who know the way around "procedures". What chance has the man in the street got? Zippo.

Frank,

Like I say, go and watch some trials yourself, you might find it surprising and enlightening over who gets believed.

All decent cops want the bad few weeded out, and with that, I'll leave this thread before lots of people come along with third hand stories over what happend to auntie Betty's cousins son

Well I am auntie Betty's cousins son .... the whole day in court is a sham unless you ahve a heck of a lot of money to spend .... your normal man in the street even wiht minimum representation has little or no chance.. yes even if innocent.. from lying police who only need one small lie that can't be challenged to change the whole thing.. then theres the prosecution who know exactly how to manipulate things..

the whole thing is a one sided sham :(

I have seen the inside of our Criminal Justice system, first hand. I was a totally innocent victim of a random and unprovoked attack. Plod and the CPS threatened me with jail if I didn't take their policy on the prosecution. Obstructing justice they threatened me with. I just wanted to say what happened. Wasn't in the public interest to take that attitude they said.

The Criminal Justice system exists for the benefit of the coppers and the crooks. Victims and witnesses are largely seen as a nuisance.

Look at all the handwringing over the Duggan chap. All the talk about how best to treat black criminals. Nothing about how to treat their victims.

I had two uncles who were both Sargeants in the days when bobbies would tell your dad about what you'd done wrong, so don't say I've a natural hatred of them. But...look in the papers. nearly every day somewhere in this country there is a copper in jail for corruption.

Chief Constable of Cleveland sacked. His deputy also sacked. Assistant Chief Constable in Lincoln walked in front of a train the morning he was due in court on fraud charges. Chief Constable of Cumbria takes early retirement on health grounds and disciplinary charges against him are dropped. How many referrals to the IPCC has Bettinson got against him at present? Chief Superintendant in Merseyside in jail for tipping off the drug barons about future raids. These are the guys setting the tone for the force.

Then the ordinary bobbies...

Stepehen Lawrence
Jean Charles de Menezes
Plebgate
Ian Tomlinson

how many more are there?

Sorry, but the bent coppers are not the tip of the iceberg. They are the iceberg.

That's not strictly true. Only the officer who sent the email was lying, and he had nothing to do with the Mitchell incident.

Not strictly true. He came out with all the details of the incident. He wasn't there, so how did he get his story? The ones who were there told him what to say. I think that's called conspiracy.

Magistrates court has a high conviction rate, not so with Crown.

There are corrupt people in all parts of society, and bleating on about the Police and what they have done in your case is pretty pointless because we are never likely to know who is telling the truth, are we?
Stephen Lawrence...the police didn't kill him.
Jean Charles De Menezes, Firearms Police were ordered to shoot him, dreadful accident.
Plebgate...Ongoing case no verdicts or CPS decisions yet.
Ian Tomlinson,,,pushed to the ground with minimal force and had a heart attack. Although tragic and wrong could happen to any of us.

You don't know that and are slandering people.

So you are. We'd all better watch out or we will soon be getting a "routine" visit.

Whether or not I am a Police Officer is irrelevant. If you are going to quote facts you really should make sure those facts are true.
Ah, but some people are not interested in the facts, they would rather have handbags on the internet.

We really should do away with the judicial system, evidence and irrelevant things like that, maybe have a system like North Korea instead or internet kangaroo courts staffed by the usual internet legal experts.
