Hi all, Does anyone know if I would be safe if I purchased an expensive item from Latvia Via Ebay and paying through PayPal.

Also would the item ( Second Hand Camera ) be subject to Custom Charges?.

EBay offer guarantees so you should be safe. Latvia is in the EU and so is the UK so there will be no custom charges.

Have a look at your sellers feedback - look for other expensive items shipped a long way - if there's a pattern of good performance - I wouldn't worry too much.

could be genuine ,theres a lot of camera stuff coming from there for some reason (greys via russia ) possibly .the nikon looks o.k and a reasonable price BUT what do you do if there are problems .or put it this way would you spend several hundred pounds buying a used camera from china/russia/roumania /bulgaria /ukraine etc .
any arguments over the item will be at best in pidgin english CAVEAT EMPTOR

I'm a little dubious in regards to it being half inched with no box etc.
I have sent him an Email asking for some pictures taken with the camera.

Just had a reply ...and at least it says in the info that it is a D700 and a 50mm lens.

And that's a UK keyboard

Would a MacBook in Latvia have a UK Keyboard ?

Is there anyway to check if the pictures have been posted online anywhere?

Just click on the one above. It takes you to photobucket

Edit; Sorry I was having a very stupid moment. That would be your photobucket. Duh.
:asshat:

Oh, and 92% positive would not be good enough for me.

you could upload them to google and see if it shows if they were posted any where

His ad says

“Excellent condition, almost new. Bought it, but didn't use it.”

so what did he use to take photos of his sister party ?

Not sure what you mean sorry, can you elaborate.

As I followed your link earlier on and then searched out his for sale items ,then came across the Nikon D700 ,my auto search links have thrown up quiet a lot of them for sale in the u.k at lower prices than this ,so the answer is nope steer well clear .something doesn't sound right about it

92%

I'd stay well clear

and if it arrives damaged - try and return to sender ...NO NO NO

I wouldn't touch it with a 90 ft Bargepole !

There are too many inconsistencies

and .............Latvia cars have a white/silver front plate
the car in the bsckground is yellow/amber = UK

bish-bash-boom

I think you are right I'm doubting this myself, I will look for a UK based one.

the car in the bsckground is yellow/amber = UK
But they're only yellow on the rear in the UK. That's clearly the front, and it's also on the wrong side of the road.
I can't say where that is, but I don't think it's the UK.

Hang on - UK front is white - UK back is yellow Dutch is yellow front and back. I'm not sure whether that car is showing its front or back end

I have read through the Ebay Money Back guarantee and looks like it is on the buyers side.....

in real-life I believe eBay sides with the Seller - from where they make their money

We'll make sure that you get the item you ordered; or
  • You’ll be refunded the purchase price and original postage costs if you paid using PayPal.

That's EBay's Guarantee in Black & White as long as you go through eBay and PayPal for payment

I also noted he is a Business Seller.

Looks like the front to me, and that shade of yellow is distinctively the Dutch registration marks. I would stay well clear from this based upon what you already know. Best thing to buy from Latvia is dodgy OEM satnav units for cars ;) Never known such a small country to have so many OEM satnavs in vehicles (Audi, BMW, Mercedes).

Seriously though, my guess is the goods are real, however they will be hot, just like that MacBook with UK keyboard.

The seller has closed the auction>

Maybe had an attractive offer from a forum member :)
