Is it my grip

hello all,

just wondered if anybody out there has had the same problem as me, only just got my eos 20d body back from lehmanns, after having to have a new shutter fitted (£163), when i bought it from a member off here, who said the camera had only done 7000 shots,ha ha ha, but who has not been on since i informed him of the problem. but thats another story.:nuts:

well got it back,and tried it out this week with the grip it came with, which is a YXTM C40D.

My problem is that when using the shutter release button on the grip, while shooting in portrait format, the camera fires away no problem, but when i use the shutter release button on the body, it does not always fire straight away, sometimes it take a couple of seconds to fire and then it does not fire at all.

Any ideas, i have done the usual things new fully charged batteries, cleaned contacts on grip, etc.

before i decide to get rid of the grip, and use the camera on its own, i hope someone out there will give me the remedy to my problem.

I'm confused, have you tested the camera without the grip?

You make it sound like the grip and its buttons work fine; as oppose to the main body shutter button whihc is faltering..?

sorry i should have stated that yes i have tested the camera without the grip.

as i say with the grip attached if i use the shutter button on the grip it fires ok, just when i use shutter button on camera with grip attached i have problems.

I've read some reports of third party grips interfering with burst fire :shrug:

If the camera works fine without the grip but ***** up with the grip then I think you've got your answer. Time to ebay (with disclaimer) or bin it I think :thumbsdown:

Firstly there is nothing to say that the camera has done more than 7000 clicks, unless you checked when you got it? :shrug: Shutters can fail at any time, mine did on my 40D after only a couple of months.

Secondly the shutter button problem on your body, also sounds like a less than rare problem with these cameras. I think Marcel made a thread about a similar problem with his unresponsive shutter button on his 30D. Plus I also had the same problem with my 40D. That was sorted when it went back to have the shutter replaced though.

Edit: I misread the bit about the it being a problem only with the grip in place. Have you tried using your camera without the grip for a while to make sure it's the grip at fault?

infact i might just put camera and grip up for sale, and try find another eos 1d mk2 body.

well this is what i thought when mine went back, they give them a good MOT and SERVICE, so it should be ok, as mrgubby stated, on yer way you grip, off to ebay you shall go.
