Ali....

lick thumb,

wipe across front element of lens over your shoulder.

Turn around and SMILE broadly.

I don't stand fools - I do lots of things I regret afterwards, but if they get offended it serves them jolly well right.

Haven't been to Fuc Os (nearly got the spelling wrong) for several years. I can't see the point in fighting with a load of bag carrying morons, poly bags stuffed with every brochure they can lay their hands on. I nearly went this year, but Thursday, when I had a day, it had finished....only found that out by looking up the dates before I set off. Was going to go and have a decko at the exhibitions.....went fishing instead, far more productive.:D

don,t know how big you are mr lensflare but if you did that to my camera :bat:  edit but then again i would,nt be that rude

I went on the Wednesday - Many had cameras, but some where a little - enthusiastic. This was supposed to be a lighting setup.

Mostly it very interesting -

The Adobe was V.good but there was a stand in the corner, I think it was the Master Photographers, If anyone could give the name of the site of the presenter, demonstrating photo processing using Adobe channels etc, You would remember him by his description of normal users - "Wangers and Nudgers"

I guess at the end of the day, everyone is there for different reasons.
Most people are there to find new products/services that can improve their photography business.

While others are there for fun....or a day out. They aren't really looking for anything. Just passing time.

Really, what are they going to do with the images they took? They aren't going to print them, they'll probably never look at them again. I dunno.

I guess if they wanna take photos, then so be it. Not very nice if they are waving their lenses in your face though while you're trying to listen to a talk.

Oh, there was that 1 guy that stood in his undercrackers all day on the Insurance stand. lol. Is that the model they were all taking photos of?

aawww, now I missed him!

You should go to the SWPP convention next January, Yvonne. The last two years, the Aaduki boys have been there in force.

Incidentally, if 75%(*) of photograpers are male, why do Aaduki use this marketing tactic? Are they being ironic?

(*) I'm having a surprising amount of trouble pinning down what this statistic actually is. The only reputable source I've found (here) says that 72.6% of US press photographers in 2006 were male. Does anybody have a better, or more relevant, statistic?

Hi All,

Been reading these comments with interest and surprised at some of the presumptions. Come on guys as has been said we all go for different reasons.

I go to see what is happening, pick up a bargain and lots of magzines. As I have mentioned I also like to try and take the opportunity of taking pictures of models. I don't have this opportunity every day because it is not what I do for a living, nor can I just hire a location and model to do so, that would be expensive and rather foolish. This year was a dissapointment in that not only did they not have many models but for the last couple of years they have not been parading them for us public to take photos of like they have in the past.

As to taking a camera and lens out to brag, what is that idea about. Aren't we all in this game for the same reason? To take a photo that we either like, want to show our fellow photographers or put into a competition? I guess most of you are professionals and have an ample supply of models so these opportunities like Focus are a joke to you. Well if you are in the Devizes area of Wiltshire and have space for someone else to come along, please let me know and if I am not busy I would love to come along and be shown up by your skills. Perhaps you could teach me, but guess you will be to busy moving on to the next assignment.

Best regards

Chris

Photographers turning on photographers  :'(

Some of you sound right jealous to:lol: if someone (another togger) wants to take their 1200mm slung around their neck and take pictures then thats up to them isnt it. Why on earth some of you would question what they are taking pictures of :nono: what about that "its all in the photographers eye" comment that most if not all of you would post virtualy ANY other time when a thread comes up about "why was he taking my picture"

Some of you need to take a few steps back get off that high horse and leave your fellow toggers alone.

FWIW ive never been and as its mainly a photographers show you photographers arnt giving it much praise on this photography forum.

For the record I went on the Wednesday and really enjoyed it. Some good seminars and nice to look at all the gear. (camera shops are non-existent in my locality:'( )

I asked on here about taking a camera and the only replies I got said I should. Not knowing the format I took it but it stayed in my bag as I didn't see anything I wanted to photograph.

Saw a few people with cameras round their necks and a few trying to get pictures of the models but it didn't bother me at all. Why should it? Each to their own.

I know what you mean about the bikers and toggers. I go to a lot of Carp Fishing shows and yes, more and more grown men are turning up in CAMO. Everytime I can't help but thinking "what a plonker".:cuckoo::gag::thinking:

If the comment made by the OP comes from a fellow photographer, then we have no chance when it comes to the publics perceivance of us, so thats not helping a bit.
Yes, i took my camera to focus, there were lenses and lights i wanted to try.
Yes, i had a "big white lens" on my camera, but it was only a 70-200, which i thought would probably be the best focal length for the day.
I think its a liitle unfair of you to make comments like that.
Dean:|

just my tuppence worth, never been, maybe never will, but if they hire models then they are there to be seen and photographed and expect to be snapped by every camera there. it may not be your "thing" and that's fair enough (or maybe you want to also take pics but don't want to appear sad and/or amateurish) to call them saddos is a bit uncalled for, and as has been said, they may not get to photograph a "proper" model at any other time. :)

sounds like any show where there are models TBH although some of us have been paid to shoot them :naughty:

LOL, I did see a poor lassie who had a scrum of togs round her, seemed a couple of lenses were almost up her nostrils.

All the togs carrying their kit around didn't bother me, what did irritate was there were too many overdressed blokes around, and I don't mean the spiky haired salesmen , who all looked about 12, but grown men in 3 piece suites, long dress overcoats, one even had a cravat with a jewelled tie-pin in (a la Quentin Crisp), I thought I'd got into the wrong convention.

What are these guys trying to prove?

Or maybe the right one.... ;)

I was ill during this years so didn't go but to be honest after going the last 3 years I'd about had enough.
I can see the point of taking a camera if your going to be trying thigs out before you buy, but otherwise I suspect it's a just a pose thing " Oh look at me, I have a big camera!" they are a dammed nuisance though the place was pretty full last time I went and the big bags of kit didn't help.

OooooooK, as always some loose the thread.....

As said at the begining. Take a camera if you want. Shoot the models if you want.(Not my problem your girlfriend or wife wont trust you to shoot/hire a model)

The point being made WHY DO THEY have to walk around with a bloody great lens on in a crowded area????? Smacking people as they go.

Bag it when you are done. 'Oh what a big lens I've got Mrs!!!!! There is no need to walk around all day with it round your neck!!!!!!!

Nice to see that we all love each other! I just kept away from the guys around the models. Not my thing really. Didn't bother me that they were there though.
I did take my camera, but to get the sensor cleaned. I took all of two shots with it. To see if they had done a decent job of it.
It stayed in the bag the rest of the time. Oops, I was carrying a bag!
The only time I get the urge to slag off another togger is if they are doing something that would give the rest of us a bad name. Then I would probably say something to their face. I'm not sure that carrying a camera at a photography convention/show fits in there.

Some just like to for the hell of it. ;)
My reply was aimed at the ones that had.:D

I did take my camera this year, mainly to get this shot on the way back and to try out some of the lenses on display, it was in a bag when not in use though.

The amount of people walking with expensive gear slung round their necks with no protection surprised me tbh.

I took mine up, but only because I wanted the nikon tech to have a look at it for me!
I stuck the smallest lens possible on there (50 1.8) in order to not make my daysack(non photo type) too bulky/ heavy.

I have to agree about the willy waving, lots of big lenses being toted about for no apparent reason other than 'look at my disposable income'

I have to say I went to the 'jagd und hund' show a few years back, and nobody was carrying shotguns about, although a few were dressed for the field!

its a freudian slip...we think about sex every 7 seconds...

gasp

Next year come to WPPI - way more fun than Focus, and cameras encouraged at the classes

Perhaps they were from the DFS stand? :D

....My mate nearly smacked afew because they bumped him with the lens....

You should be more concerned about associating with your mate in public. It sounds like he's got serious anger management issues.

Paul, when an idiot hits you 3 times after being asked nicely to watch what he is doing.....

The mate, is a seasoned pro of 30+ years.

He did not even apolagise.... so as far as that goes.... 3 strikes and the chap gets a telling off like a kid.

Manners cost nothing

I on the other hand would have explained that I will insert it where only customs Officers dare to go!!!

And he might loose his polarising filter in the dark!

Penis extensions, girls, cars, large lenses all at one venue, nobody told me about this.

I feel deprived for not having a large lens.
