What is about focus that brings out the pillocks with the cameras round there necks with the biggest lens they can find????

Can some one explain? My mate nearly smacked afew because they bumped him with the lens.

It's sad. Is it a Penis extension? Or are they sado lonely blokes like the ones that take photos of the girls at car shows?

Get a life and leave your camera kit at home!!!!!!!

Rant over.

LOL.......... took my Mrs on Sunday and she said the same.... Couldnt understand why so many people had their cameras in the 1st place...... let alone with a great big lens on.

I can understand that some people may want to get a feel of what a particular lens looks like/does etc on their camera before they buy but there just seemd to be far too many of these people.??

:agree:

 got to say, it was something of a shock to see the number of people lugging cameras around, or rather, obviously carrying them around necks or over shoulder. We had ours [in bags] but once the incriminating pics in Wetherspoons were done with, they got dumped in the car boot. In fact next year I would probably just take a compact [just call me matty ;) ]

Its not only photographers bud.

I witnessed two grown men get out of a Renault Espace & put on their
bike leathers. They both walked into the NEC with their skid lids aswell :cuckoo:

There are those of us who take our cameras in our bags to try/buy attachments, gadgets, lenses etc. Then there are those who it would appear have never seen a model before or have no attractive female friends to photograph. I witnessed one guy taking numerous shots of a model during a demo, so many that I think he must have been testing the frames per second.

felt genuinely embarassed for humanity watching the letch crowd have a proper little pap scrum, elbowing each other and properly going mad to get some of the world's crappest photos of a (fully dressed) model on a couple of the stands...get a life and your jollies somehow else...

and yeah, they've gotta show the world that they do indeed own a 'big white lens' after all to show that they're a photographer ;)

Hi All,

Well perhaps I can give a different perspective on this.

My first focus was four years ago and there were many models paraded specifically for us to shoot. They allowed groups to get closer and take shots with brighter modelling lights. As a newbie I was too inexperienced to take advantage. I have however taken my camera with me ever since.

Last year I got some good shots used in a comp of a model sort of in a cage. This year the camera stayed in the bag as there was no opportunity.

No I don't get the opportunity to take photos of professional models every day so at an event like this I will give it a try. So folks give us amateurs a break. You may have catwalks and models in your daily lives but some of us don't.

I do agree that some folks are in your face but on the whole most are polite.

Regards

Chris

I took my camera to Focus (just in case) but it never came out of the bag! In all honesty, I couldn't see anything there worth photographing and the models loitering around the place weren't worth shooting... If I want to shoot lovely girls, I've got ModelMayhem for that! :D

All in all though, it was a good show and I learnt quite a bit including how to sound really, really patronising to the models who were helping out on one particular stand!

Si

Please excuse me for asking but what is FOCUS? or should I know :lol:

Focus On Imaging is the UK's photographic trade show that's held at the NEC in Birmingham every year. It finished on Wednesday! :D

No, I don't take my camera. It's enough lugging around all the books/leaflets/catalogues etc, nevermind a camera.

Didn't even see any models there on Wednesday anyway. I must have been walking round with my eyes shut.
Oh, there was that 1 guy that stood in his undercrackers all day on the Insurance stand. lol. Is that the model they were all taking photos of?

lol I did think the same to be honest.

I went with about 8 mates and the only camera was my leica that lives in my handbag. We went to see Mark Cleghorn and there were three guys all with cameras snapping away. except Mark was the one with the trigger for the lighting so none of them would be shooting anything decent at all! One was leaning over my shoulder and I could happily have smacked him, damned camera going off every few seconds. At one point he shot eight frames in a row, none of which would be worth the battery power!

For the travelling expenses, food expenses and entry you could go and hire a studio and have all the time you like. ;)

aawww, now I missed him!

Ali, I love how your handbag compact is nothing but a Leica :p

Well it is an imaging show... Not everyone knows what to expect.

What really irritates me is people who call everyone who doesn't think like them sado lonely blokes... It's quite rude really.

oh wait... ;)

Must admit people grumbling about others doing stuff that really doesn't effect them annoys me more.

and lol Rikki!

I have to admit that the last time I went I was amused by all the male-jewellery on display.
None of us (Army togs) took our cameras with us as there was nothing we wanted to photograph and all the kit we wanted was already available to us through Nikon's loan system.
The models are a useful subject for those wanting to check out the studio lights on display, but without being able to adjust them to your own taste, even that's of limited value.
I kind of cringe when I think of what must have been going through those girls' minds...

havent you guys got nothing better to do except whinge about others , do you include your selfs when carring a camera ? so just get your photos and stop moaning

When I go to watch a seminar and it is utterly spoiled by some loon shooting over my shoulder then darned right I'll have a moan! I could barely hear for the shutter clacking away.

Why? Why would you feel the need to be rattling shots off when you are not even connected to the lighting? I bet if you asked him any of what was said in the seminar he would not remember a thing, his face didn't leave the viewfinder long enough for him to actually watch and listen.

Ali....

lick thumb,

wipe across front element of lens over your shoulder.

Turn around and SMILE broadly.

I don't stand fools - I do lots of things I regret afterwards, but if they get offended it serves them jolly well right.

Haven't been to Fuc Os (nearly got the spelling wrong) for several years. I can't see the point in fighting with a load of bag carrying morons, poly bags stuffed with every brochure they can lay their hands on. I nearly went this year, but Thursday, when I had a day, it had finished....only found that out by looking up the dates before I set off. Was going to go and have a decko at the exhibitions.....went fishing instead, far more productive.:D

Never having been before and wanting to look at lens' I took my camera; it stayed in my bag. The logic of taking my camera suddenly descended as I walked in...of COURSE the lens bods would have suitable bodies to show off their lens....

However, newbie or no I had the sense to go Wednesday and the number of saddos with extensions ;) were minimal;) Though there were a few on the stands with models and the Canon Monster Lens stand! All male... (just an observation)

LOL, I did see a poor lassie who had a scrum of togs round her, seemed a couple of lenses were almost up her nostrils.

All the togs carrying their kit around didn't bother me, what did irritate was there were too many overdressed blokes around, and I don't mean the spiky haired salesmen , who all looked about 12, but grown men in 3 piece suites, long dress overcoats, one even had a cravat with a jewelled tie-pin in (a la Quentin Crisp), I thought I'd got into the wrong convention.

What are these guys trying to prove?

Won't be going to that event then, sounds very unpleasant and full of wallies, must make a note to take those few days off next year

Should be able to go and take some pics in peace if all the camera wielding prats are off the scene and together in a big hall somewhere

Always the way...people do like to do a bit of willy waving when the opportunity arises...'look at my big lens, that means I'm a pro togger...err, but I couldn't make it on trade day...was shooting supermodels yet again...':D

The delicious irony is that those waving big lenses about are usually doing so for appearances sake, to get noticed...and they do get noticed, but for all the wrong reasons.:D I'm sure they go away thinking they looked the business, and I'm equally sure most people point and laugh :D

Look, I was going to ride up, but it was really really cold...and I needed the space in the car in case I found a bargain...and the scenic really is a very good car, my wife loves it...but I had to change into leathers, didn't I? It's a bike show, and if I'm not in leathers, how will everyone KNOW I'm a biker? I'd hate for them to know I'm actually an I.T bod called Colin...:D:D:D

I took my camera with a very small lens (35mm) and kept it well hidden, in case anyone mistook me for one of those photographer people that everyone seems to be complaining about :p.

The main reason I brought it with me was to try a couple of ZA lenses on the Sony stand, but having done serious injury to my credit card at Jacobs almost as soon as I walked through the door I decided not to try the other lenses in case I returned to the Jacobs stand and killed the plastic money completely.

As a result the camera never came out of the bag the whole day. I also managed to completely avoid seeing any models over the course of the time I was there, so I obviously visited the wrong (or right) stands... I did see two or three wandering around last year - were there less this year or did I just fail to notice them?

It was rather crowded on Sunday, maybe a weekday next year.

I thought this but then realised that I'd want to see the shots I took with said lenses on my screen, so best to take my own body (I could take a card but then they may not have had a D90 there).

As it turns out, I never bothered going anyway :D

Having had the misfortune to be in the same room with a bunch of glamour Togs, on two occasions recently, I actually thought the pepes there on Tuesday were relatively normal, only relatively mind you :naughty: Maybe I'm getting sensitive in my old age, but too many times recently, I've felt embarrassed to be male :sulk:
