Yes
I am not sure if THIS is going to far

I mean great fun and all that but what next aliens invading a wedding, The bride and groom on the moon. I cannot help feeling its getting a little silly.

I actually had a client the other day ask me "You are not going to make us run across a field or something"

I think people are starting to worry that their wedding photos are going to turn into some kind of pantomime. Is this just creative flair on the photographers side or simply the photographer doing ANYTHING to get noticed

I love how they have to tell us the evidence that it was photoshopped. Because, y'know, I couldn't make my mind up if it was real or not.

"Of course, the dinosaur was Photoshopped in after the fact, as evidenced by the strange blurring effect in his hindquarters."

It's a good job people like different things. If people want to buy it, and people want to sell it, everyone's happy - regardless of (a complete lack of) Photoshop skills.

Yes, it's mainly done for publicity for the photographer, but a couple having some fun on their wedding day doesn't affect anyone else. Presumably, couples who don't want that stuff will book one of the other X thousand photographers who don't shoot it. :)

funnily enough, OH was just looking at that in the DM and started to read out some of the comments posted under it... I had to tell him to stop, my head was starting to hurt each time it hit the wall :naughty:

Thoughts? Its fun and grabs attention, couples that don't like that kind of thing will pressumably not book it ;)

That made me laugh out loud when I read it

Yeah true... I am not saying its wrong just wanted peoples thoughts

The size of that thing, and I don't mean the Dino:lol:

So badly shopped in, it looks very bad, if someone with some skill could do it justice I think it would be better.

Shock. Horror. Wedding party are enjoying themselves and it's been photographed.

It certainly looks like the wedding party are getting involved in the scene, and I'm sure they enjoyed it as well. I can see it being mimicked by others, running away from aliens or whatever. So long as everyone involved is happy then I can't see anything wrong with the concept.

The big thing is,if your going to invite an T.rex to your wedding keep him away from the booze tent :)

Regardless of how the photo turned out or not, you can be sure the people attending will remember it fondly for a good while to come - it is a bit of fun.

I know we're a photography forum, but having attended a fair few weddings as a guest, one stands out in my memory as being the 'best' was probably the one that was the least formal. Very relaxed but beautiful venue (and old castle), informal - the guests helped blow up the balloons the night before along side the bride and groom, and (as this is a photography forum), a relatively inexperienced photographer (he was just starting out); he gauged the mood just right and had us jumping and waving at times but it fitted in perfectly.

Writing this, I occurs to me that t've never actually seen the photo's from that wedding, but you know what, I don't need to as the memories are still fresh in my mind so many years later!

I'm rambling, so I'll shut up and go make a cup of tea, but back to the original point - I think it looks fun!

That's one of the worst pieces of photoshop use I've ever seen. :) Great idea though. Wedding shots are usually quite boring.

I wondered if the effect was deliberate, and was supposed to mimic an animal entering the present through an anomoly as in the the series "Primeval", and then again maybe I am just being generous to the photographer regarding their creative/artistic skills.;)

I've seen this pic in a dozen places now. I still have no idea who took it. And even if I were a bride who wanted a shot like it I'd just show it to a photographer and say "do this".

C'est magnifique. Mais ce n'est pas marketing.

He's linked in the second sentence in the story the OP links to. Linked on Petapixel and all the other usual suspects I've seen it at as well. He's a digi art student in the States. So yea, maybe not marketing as such by him as he doesn't seem to be really set up as a photographer. (I never bothered to click through to his site before).

The PS use isn't particularly good, but if couples don't want that sort of thing they wouldn't ask for it or book it. Live and let live and all that. Its a bit of (good) fun.

If its not photography what is it? and its far from the worst idea I've seen

If its not photography what is it?

- it's computer digital image manipulation, but as to whether it's what I understand as "photography" is another matter (which is defined pretty much as "the art or process of producing images by the action of radiant energy and especially light on a sensitive surface (as film or an optical sensor)"

Having got the pedantry over, we're the left with the fact that it must be a subjective thing as to whether you like it or not....... in my view it's horribly naff, and belongs in the dustbin of history alongside those dreadful softed images of peoples heads floating about in custard glasses so popular a while back........:D

A wedding is full of magic, of wonderful "gooey looks", a day that will never be repeated - a family's historical day, a wonderful opportunity for a photographer, to go adding dinosaurs rather misses the point of it all as far as I'm concerned - there's loads of "fun" without that

I know - but I've never been interested enough to click it ;) Unlike when I first saw stuff by John Michael Cooper (just checked his site and he's calmed down a bit since the bride on fire days....).

You don't think that's perhaps for the happy couple to decide and not you? I'm fairly sure this guy wouldn't have just gone adding monsters from the past randomly without the bride and groom's consent, who are you to say how their wedding should be shot?

It may be lots of things, but is it photography?

Ah, that old question again... :bang:

Im curious about this, I saw it on the BBC news website.....
Is there not a copyright issue with that image? Surely the t-rex was pulled from a movie or some other copyrighted material, leaving the guy wide open to legal proceedings, because he effectively profited from someone elses work.

Thats up to the happy couple. It is a little fun and completely up to them at the end of the day. Your or indeed my opinion of what a wedding day should be is neither here or there for this.

I notice, again you have very strong, some may say argumentative opinions. But for a photographer to be so opinionated on a photography forum without ever showing any of their work is unusual. Go on, show something

I have been to a number of weddings and not many of them could be described as fun. They are usually so prescriptive that I am bored after 10 minutes. Anything to help make the experience more enjoyable the better.

My first wedding was one of those dull and cliched affairs. My second wedding was great and didn't even have photos. Just me and my wife in Vegas running an alcohol induced riot for the day.

This gave me a chuckle.....I wouldn't be the one to ask him to leave.

Nice - one of my colleagues recently had a wedding reception on one of their sites gate crashed by a big pink pig which had escaped from its feild and ran straight through the marquee.

incidentally random fact of the day - paeleotolongists studying fossils of T rex bones, now say they couldn't have run at more than about 4mph anyway due to their joint structure ... so all that would be actually required would be to walk briskly away

Suitably stored in the back of the brain for future pub quiz usage.

its a comical enough image but would you put it on your wall as a momento of your wedding day. The couple probably like it so its not going to far for them.

wedding photography turned into a pantomime years ago TBH

This is one of the comments, unfortunately from someone in the UK - I thought we were a bit brighter than that.

And if one of the guests had a weak heart? DISGRACEFUL!

Ditto.

It's photoshopped? Really? You mean to tell me that bridesmaid isn't really wearing cowboy boots with her pretty dress?

As A) fun, and B) publicity, I think it's great, and I'll bet it helped the photographer get a rapport going with the guests.

I wouldn't want it in my wedding photo's, but it wasn't my wedding :)

Trolls arent known for their intellect  maybe we could keep it talking till the sun comes up ;)

All T-Rex's are trained in CPR and carry full public liability insurance.

Look at any wedding album and a large number of the images are fake situations staged by the photographer to generate sales. Trash the Dress/Shock the Frock being the most obvious, but there are loads of them - groom's mates joshing around, bridesmaids sitting about looking pretty picking daisys, all that pre-wedding getting ready guff with pictures of shoes and lacy bodices... LOL

That shot has probably generated an extra 20 print sales, as well as publicity

Yes, as a discussion on it's photography merits in a completely different part of the forum and in a different context. :shake:

Posted here purely for fun.
