Well you must be one of the 10,000 (!!) people in Britain who still has a b&w TV licence. OK, so it's better than just avoiding it altogether, but are we really meant to believe that people still have these as their only set? :rolleyes:

On a similar line. Would you now say the majority of households now have a HD TV? It annoys me that virgin media have not rearranged there channels to have the HD channels in order at the start of there numerical order and not the SD channels. You have to sift throw the guide looking for them its a pain.

Is sky the same?

You can choose to see only the HD channels.

Yes it's the same. And when you choose the HD filter the numbering is all over the place. Like BBC One HD is about five pages down.

It is madness. However the difference with sky would be is that they can see exactly what people connect and watch. So perhaps not yet the majority.

Strange, my BBC One HD is at the very top, number 101.
 
140 or 141 for us. I think it also depends on the region as we still get that message with the stupid underwater sounds as the local news isn't in HD yet.

Same here - really annoying. I saved all the HD channels as favourites but you can't rearrange the order of them.
 
With the BBC it's all to do with the fact they have to provide regional programming and they don't broadcast all the regional variants in HD.

I remember being at an auction maybe 12 or 13 years ago and there was a cracking condition b&w TV. The auctioneer asked for £1 to start off, dropped it to 50p and then asked if anybody wanted it for nothing. No-one did. Little did he know about all those thousands of folk who would have been happy to buy it! ;)
 
I wonder if, similar to photography, certain TV programmes look better in b&w? Such as gritty dramas/thrillers etc.

It would be hilarious if b&w TV sets see a similar resurgence to vinyl records. :)

You used to be able to turn the colour off like desaturating in photo software, but I don't know if today's sets would allow you to do that.

A TV? Pfff. When we grew up, we didn't even have a floor to stand one on. Or eyes to watch it with...

I'm amazed we have 3 on this thread without TVs. Do you watch stuff like iPlayer netflix on computers or do you just not watch anything?

I only watch Internet on-demand TV on my TV. I couldn't go back to live TV. The show I want is never on at exactly the right time. It's madness!
It's like after using always on DSL, could you go back to dial up?

I don't either but the kids do otherwise I wouldn't be paying my TV licence.

That would be useful, I'll have a look later and give it a try.

Django Unchained might be good in b&w, and Breaking Bad.

Hmm. This could be the start of a "thing".

I would still class that as TV. I can't remember the last time I watched it live either, it's still TV and requires a tv license.

I have a TV, its flat screen about 9 years old, no HD. If I watch it once a week, its lucky, and that's usually for a blue ray. and no I don't use catch up iPlayer etc. on the PC

im probably the same in that i watch "on demand" stuff from iplayer occasionally but a lot of what is on live tv is just "chewing gum for the eyes" lol
 
I have an Xbox one on a 42" plasma monitor, I sometimes watch catchup on it, most of the time it's youtube and games.
Otherwise I play outside :D
 
I have 4k ultra hi def 50" TV, but only really watch nature programmes on it, which is actually why I bought it.

The Mrs however watches home and away on it, which if truth be told is an utter waste of anyone's time
 
I have a feeling, call it a hunch, that people's tastes just might be subjective. :)
 
I don't actually know what a hipster is. But someone gave me the Ladybird book of hipsters for Christmas. So I'm still learning.
 
I'm semi hipster I think: I like hoppy craft beer and some retro stuff too. Unfortunately I have no hair, love shaving and don't mind getting extremely dirty so I don't think they'd have me.
