Is Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows OK for 8 year olds ?

My twins could not wait to see this, but we were warned by an adult friend on Friday that she found it a bit scary in places.
We all also watched the Half Blood Prince again yesterday and one of them did not like the bit in the cave near the end.
Has anyone taken children this young to see it ?
 
I saw it the other day and would say it is probably 12a for a reason. Obviously it depends on the 8 year old but there is a lot of death and a fair bit of blood and violence.
 
I would agree. Quite a lot a blood and very dark right from the start. If they didn't like the last one I wouldn't recommend this one.
 
My eight year old went to see it yesterday with his 11 year old brother, and wasn't the slightest bit bothered by any of the scenes. I don't think he understood much of the plot though, but still thought it was great!

If they got scared of the last one I would wait till it came out on DVD then that way if they get scared you just press stop and that way all you lost was the price of the DVD as opposed to what it will cost you to walk out of the cinima half way through, trips to the cinima are not cheap.

Dependent on cinemas, you ycan get refunded.
My younger bro worked at odeon until 6m ago, they certainly still did it then
 
With my 4yr old (at the time) went to see Jurassic Park 3 - (she'd seen1&2 when younger!) & was mad on dinosaurs. She loved it, although not gory did have people eaten in it. When we went to see The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe my wife declared it was a horror film. What Im saying is it depends on the individual. Mrs Stow hates anything with a hint of horror - they frighten her to death. My daughter (now 14) loves horror movies & has never lost a wink of sleep over anything she's seen. I dislike 'gory' films & wouldn't want her watching that type of film. She's seen the shining & similar (Omen, Halloween, Alien etc) most of them she enjoys (the fear) very much. The thing is as they get higher certificates the language & sexual content gets stronger. Which is why she's only seen some. You know your kids all the HP films have mild jeopardy & 'scary bits' if like my daughter they enjoy the fear.... Or like mrs they don't then make the decision.
 
Thanks for all the replies. One of the twins will be fine, the other is just a bit wary of it.
We have taken a chance and booked it for early afternoon next weekend.
 
Show them a couple of classics like The Exorcist and Alien before you go. After that, Harry Potter will be like a walk in the park.
 
I went with my brother (8) and sister (12) last Saturday. There were a few bits that they shut there eyes to and jumped (but tbf most of the cinema did too and they were like 14 +! :lol:) but they're used to 12A films, having seen transformers, pirates etc.
 
Apparently it has ginger haired people in it, probably the reason for the rating, might be best to warn the kids in advance
 
They were both OK with it in the end, I actually thought they might have found it a bit boring, but they said they liked it.
