Is either a TC-17EII or TC-14E any good on a Nikon 70-200mm VR..

Andy

I will have to get you a  as thanks to you I have just managed to get a Nikon TC-14E AF-I for £125.00 - seems that what you said is true...

Cheers Andy

All I hope now is that I have got a "white elephant"

Don't worry - it'll work perfectly.

I think marketers must think photographers are stupid - producing MK II versions of the same thing with a new paint job and charging £100 more for it :D

Unfortunately a lot of people fall for it!

Enjoy :)

I bought a Nikon 1.4 to use wih my 300 2.8 prime. I do use it on my 70-200 when I want to travel light and it works very well. Although you do need to drop it down a stop to get the best results.

An example below of the 70-200 with the converter. These are both straight out of the camera with no sharpening applied. Taken with a D300 at 280mm f5.6:

Doesn't look horrid to me!

As has already been mentioned I wouldn't use a 1.7 on the 70-200 as you may as well buy a used 70-300 for almost the same money.
