My existing DD3 ram looks like its on its way out and I havent decided yet if I want to upgrade my motherboard just yet, so was wandering if its possible to just buy DD4 ram and use my current motherboard (P67A D3 B3)

Many thanks in advance

DDR4 ram will not work in a DDR3 motherboard due to the different location of the notch on the ram modules.

try it,,,,,,,,

it won't fit

RAM is never backwards (or forwards) compatible.

Not quite, it is usually possible to use a faster speed rated RAM module than specified, provided the other specifications match. It will run just fine at the slower speed.

Edited to add: Of course this might not be a supported configuration.

That's completely irrelevant to the point being discussed and only true for later DDR types (on a good day).

Thank you all! Your prompt replies stopped me wasting money on new RAM :plus1:
