Is anyone doing A Level Photography evening course?

Just wondered if anyone on this site is studying A Level Photography.

I recently started this class at night school and would love to hear from anyone doing the same course.

I have only done 4 weeks so far and am feeling rather worried about it. Would love to hear from anyone who is feeling the same or who could give me advice.

The first part of the coursework is titled "Identity and Outward Appearences".

The teacher we have doesn't seem to be able to explain things very well unless it is just my age that's the barrier. :(

Have been considering taking up a course wasn't sure about doing an A level or a more basic course.

How are you finding it?

Well it's seems like more of an art and design course at the moment, will stick with it and see how it goes, Last night was a bit more successful as we had a better tutor who seems to explain things easier.
 
I did this course back in the early 1990's - perhaps it's different now but then it was a 50/50 combination of theory and practical. The theory was not too bad and the practical was a combination of a B/W panel of six shots which had to be printed by ourselves and six transparencies which could be commercially processed.

It wasn't too bad, really. It was evening-class based in the local comprehensive school so took a school year from sept until the next May to complete. Fortunately the tutor was a chemistry teacher from that school who was a very keen photographer and not some disinterested Art teacher, so it all went quite well in the end.

Interesting, how long is an A level course? Does it need any prerequisites? How much would it cost?
 
I keep thinking about doing one of these at exeter college so would be interested in the hours you put in, I'd have to do it next year which is the 3rd year of my 4 year masters so I'll be fairly heavily loaded already
 
You have to do AS level first, which is a 30 week course spread over term time. One evening a week for 3 hours. Then you can move onto the A level which is again 30 weeks one evening a week. With a little homework ie take some pictures and research some photographers whose work interests you. Nothing too taxing really as the AS level is designed to be able to cater for complete novices. They are not expecting top quality photo's. Apparently the AS level has a 95% pass rate.

You can use the colleges computers, printers etc.

The cost is £230.

Edit: Also now things have moved on. You can take the course in either film or digital. Your choice. Or both!

Sounds interesting, might look into this in the future. Thanks for the advice :)
 
I am doing Introduction to Photography (Part 2) which starts on Sunday in Cardiff. Its degree level, but I really enjoyed part 1 :)

If my work dont take me away from home again next year i will be doing this
