Is anyone CRB checked??

I have an enhanced one. It's easiest to get one if you help out at school, but I find it comes in handy for photography at kids rugby tournaments, school events etc.

I teach jitsu and it's required as we can work with minors sometimes depending upon the club.
also everyone in the security firm in which I sometimes work has one as requested by the local council

I to have 2 disclosure scotland enhanced forms

I used to work in a school doing IT support, and now I work for the NHS and I had to have one for them as well.

I never thought of useing them to my advantage to get shoots

Mike

I do not have one yet I can see the advantage of getting one, but I was hired by UK Athletics to take shots of the Youth Athlete League finals (all under 18) and at no time did they ever enquire about CRB checks.

Got my enhanced one through in August. Trouble is it was requested in April for a Cub Camp in June !!!! - Still, might come in handy for next years Jamboree.....

Never been asked if I've got one for anything other than the cubs though. At the end of the day if it makes someone somewhere happier about me then it's worth having......

I have a CRB check every year as I'm an ice hockey coach.

And yes here, though nothing to do with photography.

DiddyDave makes a good point though, I should draw attention to it. Just need to do it in such a way that doesn't imply "because I'm so creepy, you'll be glad to know that..."

Cheers for all the comments and replies, from what i've read on one hand it seems pointless and a waste but from reading other comments it seems like it gives piece of mind, so I reckon i will go down the umbrella company route.

Cheers to everyone who has replied. Much appreciated. Especially to DiddyDave, your response made perfect sense. Cheers.

However, my personal feelings are that I will never work alone with any child under the age of 18 with parental supervision, even over 18 i would request a chaperone, so there would hopefully never be a situation where I was left alone with a minor. But having the CRB check in place would be a sort of reassurance to any would be clients.

It's kind of like the paranoia that went before Y2K, the hoops that I and every other business had to put ourselves through then were all pointless and had nothing to do with Y2K but with others fear of being sued. Same with CRB/Disclosure they have nothing to do with keeping children safe, (if they did they would be much more stringent and in depth) but with keeping organizations out of court. The Americans are to blame!

There are better things than a CRB check... however they cost a fair bit more and are not generally available ;)

Indeed but despite some of these going very deep, taking over 6 months to complete and involve friends and family being interviewed they are not designed to identify if a person is suitable for sole access to children. In fact you can be a member of the security services and still fail a CRB check to coach football to 12 year olds at the weekend.

Yep enhanced crb. But this is for my other job.

If i remember right the CRB is for 1 job and therefore if you have been enhanced for a job it is suppost to be non transferrable so "officially" you couldn't say it is for you photography. It is all a really silly bit of law at the mo. There is no official guidance as to how often a CRB check needs carried out, or that they are transferable.

6 months is usually the minimum for DV clearance, often it can take up to 18 months.

I was a parent helper when the Cubs went to a theme park so they got a CRB check done which was given to me,never needed it since.

as it was last year I suppose it's out of date now anyway

I have a CRB thing and prior to that i had the old style police check - CRB much more through.

Not got one but am going to get one soon.. I tend not to do kids events as I put all my pictures on the internet and I made my own rule not to put kids pics online (cant be avoided crowd shots etc)

However someone asked me at a womens football match and I said why. there all adults and they said because there women... I was a bit bemused but thought get one just to look more profesional anyways :)

I work for plenty of footy clubs so its been easy and plenty of offers of freebies .... just a matter of getting off my big fat.....

I too was at the Young Athletes Final taking photos for my club I have an Enhanced CRB as I am a coach with the club, but at all athletics meetings where young children are taking part the host club should have a camera declaration sheet for people to sign and give details if they intend to use any sort of camera even mobile phones but it is surprising how many people dont sign this form yet are still taking photos

I started to fill out the form that I was given, buggered it up and haven't bothered again.

TBH I find it quite demeaning.
