IS AN UNUSED LENS IN ITS BOX A NEW LENS?

I have been watching a teleconverter on Amazon for sale and it is the cheapest of the bunch. It is shown as 'NEW' but in small print the vendor shows it as 'unused' I queried him directly and he confirms that he bought it and it turned out not to be compatible and never left the box. Is this new or unused or can it be both. It is only £10 or so less than the 'new' price.

Is this sailing close to the wind and are there warranty issues. Also is this really a second hand lens and if I sell it will it become 3rd hand?

Should I buy it at all and is there risk attached. After all for a tenner more I could have a truly brand new one:help::bang::bonk:
 
I agree with Andrewc for £10 get a new one, then if you decide to sell it on you'll have a receipt and proof that you bought it new so it'll probably be worth that extra £10 anyway.
 
Most likely there will be warranty issues unless he is a legitimate trader. If he is a buyer who bought but never used the lens then it's a 2nd sale and not new.

As already commented, go elsewhere for the sake of a tenner.
 
I can't understand why, for the sake of a tenner, you're asking this question :shrug:

For ten quid you're taking the seller at his word that it is unused, for all you know he bought it, opened the box and dropped it...
 
Thanks guys - you're all unanimous so I'll listen to you. It just shows you that because something is marked 'new' you have to read the seller profile to see the small print. I wonder have Amazon any responsibility in this apparent contradiction:clap::wave::nikon:
 
This item dramatically disappeared from Amazon after I mailed the seller directly last night!! Thanks all for your comments:thumbs::wave::clap:
 
buy it, and with the change you could get a bottle of wine and some crisps
