Does anyone know of any comparisons between the Kood and Hoya R72 IR filters?

Other than the roughly £50 price difference (for the 72/77mm size), is there much between them in terms of light cut-off and optical quality?

Anyne have any shots taken with a Kood II filter that they could point me towards?

Thanks.

The kood is supposed to be the same or nearly, I have one of each but they fit different lenses so I can't really compare. I'd advise getting the kood version of the Cokin P holder and the P size square IR filter as it would be more adaptable.

I have both. On "paper" the hoya is probably the better but I doubt you'll really notice the difference, other than in your pocket.

Thanks all,

I'd been loking at a 77mm screw-in Hoya, then getting step-downs to my other sizes. I'd considered using the Cokin P system, but my experience with thispreviously was that threre was some light leakage around the filter which gave some fogging; the scre-in filters alleviate this to a large extent.

As stated, Kood is made bye the same factory as the Hoya.
Have heard they are all having problems with there glass for the IR at the moment
I would go Kood

Ditto - I found the same with my Cokin P setup - the light leakage was really noticable especially with the 30+ seconds exposure required for D80 IR work. I found I had the reflection of the front lens element on the filter and that captured on the final image - another reason not to go for Cokin other than they are French

Personally if I was going to go for another IR filter I'd get a 77mm screw in plus step up rings for my various lenses (same goes for all screw-ins actually).

Tip. If you want to get an idea of how a scene will turn out, Sony 8/Hi8 camcorders "nightshot" mode with an R72 gives B & W ir video for preview/reckies (?) Not sure about other model/makes.
