father in law has a ipod with xxx amount of music he does not want to delete current music all he wants to do is add songs

now he has deleted the old tunes and operating system so it wants to wipe it

is there a way or a prgorammge to help fix this please let me know thanks alex

youll need to import all of the original music back into itunes. shouldve backed it up really.

you can get programs like copypod that extract files back from the iDevice but its not free and last time i used it the folder structure it exported was a right mess.

Forget sync and set up itunes so you can add and remove your music manually.

That's why you turn syncing off. Then in iTunes you can just drag and drop the songs you want to add to the device.

But they don't copy across to the device until you hit sync, and then your old songs are deleted, surely. Never tried it like that though.

are you talking about itunes syncing with a folder full of music?

im talking about itunes syncing music to iDevice, not sure if we're talking about the same thing :)

I am talking about NOT synching an ipad or ipod with a computer via iTunes, just drag and drop items manually.

Otherwise you get the entirely unuser friendly iTunes knackerring your stuff and layout on your iPad/Pod.

Of course they do, set it up in preferences not to sync then drag and drop to and from your collections.

Goes to show you learn something every day. Just out of curiosity I'll give it a go tonight.
