I've got a 4th Gen ipod which packed up. I've bought a 2nd hand ipod off ebay. I use iTunes on a PC.

When I connect the ipod it just says do not disconnect - and stays like that permanently.

I want to wipe/format the ipod to a new state, plug into the PC and itunes to sync my music to the ipod.

I'm going around in circles ... anyone got any tips?!?! Or a walk through guide? There's loads of forums outthere (I am using ilounge) but I just can't find the answer I'm looking for! :bang:

my always says do not disconnect while its connected to a pc lol
but iTunes work fine then

it will say do not disconnect until you eject it?
Via itunes or safely remove hardware.

I had this on a 3rd generation nano. I let the battery run completely flat (and i mean dead), left it completely alone for a few hours thereafter, charged the battery, and then it was fine.

hold down the menu and centre buttons together for 5 seconds or more to manually reset the ipod. When connected to itunes it should show the ipod as a device and indicate the sync status at the top of the screen.

If you haven't yet synced it with your itunes it will tell you it needs to wipe it and sync with your library. That can take quite a while depending on how big your library is... Also, while it's wiping the old contents I think itunes looks like it's just frozen, so be patient.
