iPod earphones - which ?

Hi

I'm after buying some new iPod earphones to replace the standard apple ones as a present - not a clue which to get !!

Not after all singing, all dancing the best you can buy - can't afford to spend that much.

Would like some that are more comfortable than the standard apple ones, but still allow some environmental noise through (safety reasons) and have at least as good sound quality as the apple version...

Had a look around and the options seem endless...

Price wise, not sure at the moment, but would have thought £40 ish a total maximum.

Anyone any experience, any suggestions, any to avoid ?

Have a look for Sennheiser CX300-II.

Reasonable price, comfortable & good sound quality :thumbs:
 
the only in ears ive ever been able to use are the sony fontopias, no idea if they still do them but ive never had any complaints about them. normal earbuds just dont stay in for me, especially when moving around.
 
I use a pair of cans with my iPod, the sound quality esp bass is fantastic

+1 for Soundmagic's although mine are PL30's.

The CX300's are nice sounding but in my experience very fragile, one set lasted 10 months and their replacements 1 month. Exactly the same failure of sound almost disappearing in the left earbud.

My son had that with his CX300s but my CX300-IIs seem to be much more robust :thumbs:
 
Have a look at Denon's offerings, I have the AH-C551 in ear ones which are excellent and cost me around £40 about 5 years ago. They have since been replaced with the C560 (which also offer iPhone controls) which are available for around £40-45, but I haven't tried them.

I personally prefer over the ear type headphones nowadays and use my Denon AH-D1001 for general everyday use (or Grado SR80, but not really ideal for use in public!)
 
Depends if you want in ear or on ear really.

I've been through two pairs of Sennheiser CX300 II's which I really liked but are prone to damage. It wasn't an issue when the Sen's could be bought for £15 or so but now they are closer to RRP I bought a set of Soundmagic E10s instead. For the same price they sound better than the Sen's in my ears - much more airy and open sounding - and seem a bit more robust.

I bought a pair of radiopaq rock tuned earphones, I've had a lot of earphones over the years but these are without a doubt the best I've had, they're also the most expensive I've bought but come in around your £40 budget

They also do ones tuned for pop and classical
 
Unfortunately not for me it was CX300-II's that I had an issue with and that forced me to abandon Sennheiser. To my eyes a design flaw somewhere, probably that they've made the wires just too thin and easily damaged.

Annoying as I like Sennheiser, I have a pair of old cans I use in the house and a pair of PX100 that I really like but are no use on the move (let in too much external noise).

I've been through many different brands but have stuck with my BeyerDynamic DTX 80s for years now. Very light and comfortable, SQ second only to my Grado cans. They do a DDTX 71 model which is in your price range, I'd definitely give them a try.
 
Sennheiser here too, great earphones not to bad a price either.
