Yesterday Apple killed off a true technology icon, the iPod Classic. I guess with all the focus on the iPhone 6 and Apple Watch, few people would have noticed. Does anyone still have and use one? I have a 128GB model but haven't used it in years because all of my music is played through my iPhone.

I have a 160GB classic in the car. I suppose apple have dropped it to free up a sweat shop for the newest style "icons".

I have a 160GB I use regularly :-)

yea i have one in the car, mines the video version so not the original but still...

Another one who had one in the car. 80gb version which is more than enough for all my music, a luxury that I've never had with my iphone. Still have a first gen ipod nano kicking about somewhere as well though haven't seen it in months.

Must admit, I find the controls on those old school ipods very hard to use now that I'm used to touch screen.

I'm still using my first gen nano it still works fine although battery life isn't as good as it was
I mainly now listen to music on my Samsung s3 phone when I'm out though:)

My 80gb sits on the docking station. Eight years old now. She's a beauty.

I use a 160GB daily. It's a huge shame, but Apple does like streamlining it's product ranges quite drastically as they see fit. The click wheel is still *the* fastest way to browse through a music collection on a small device, and I don't believe in storing music in the cloud and all the other half cooked alternatives that have been suggested by people.

I have a couple. They sit in the car and play tunes. I could probably do that off an SD card now, but I have the iPods.

Its the only piece of i-Kit that I own.
It sits in the kitchen in a docking station.
And is played with some regularity :)

I also have a 160Gb - sits on top of my Pure clock radio and it plays all day when I'm working from home. It's very simple. I love it.

I have one in the studio - great subject to get the clients talking! The zeppelin dock is still a decent piece of kit that keeps going on with the 160gb iPod :)

1 child didn't understand why it played music but had no touch screen!!!!!

I have a 30gb model sat next to me. hasn't been used in a while as the sound started to disappear. First one side, then both went :(

Started to look into having it repaired recently, but the couple of places I've spoken to don't do the classics as they're a nightmare to get apart.

Don't want to get rid of it though. Means a lot to me iykwim.

Hadn't realised the classics were being binned though :(

have mine permanently plugged into the car stereo in the glovebox, but it is rarely used now. my first ipod was an ipod mini, followed soon after by an ipod photo (£399 if my memory is correct). 10 years - how times have moved on!

Are you using the headphone jack socket or a dock onto the main connector? If its the former, it might just be a build up of crud in there. A compressed airline is the ideal thing to clean but a good blow or hoover on it might just do the trick.

I used to repair them back in around 2002, they're fairly easy to repair as everything swaps out - the parts are also dirt cheap on eBay so give it a go!

iPods themselves are pretty cheap on eBay - "nobody uses them any more" :D

"nobody uses them any more" :D
I was thinking that myself, but when I realised I've already got a 32gb sd card in my phone (it'll take up to a 64gb) and a reasonable set of bluetooth headphones for the gym it sort of becomes a bit pointless repairing / replacing my ipod. That said if I come across an iPod touch for a reasonable price I'm sure I'll give in...

I use my 160 gig classic almost every day as I like to have all my music at my finger tips. I never bother putting music on my phone and don't really want to.

I'm considering buying a back up 160gig classic for when my current one dies (it's six years old and the battery isn't too great as compared to new. ) I'm worried that if it fails in a year or two, I may struggle to find a replacement!'

I never bothered with one... Imagine the cost to full up 160gb with legally purchased music... probably enough to buy an S-class. And how many times can you listen to the same thing over and over again? Hence I still live with radio.

You know they make a 4GB Shuffle?

I have a 80gb classic which integrates beautifully into my car's audio system.

Sure - Bluetooth on the phone is great but the control of the iPod is much better and less probe to occasional Bluetooth quirks.
