Lady with an iPhone gets the pic of the day of the young Royals beating the 20 or so pros who were present.

Just goes to show what can happen if you are in the right place at the right time.

Nice touch from the Sun photographer phoning to congratulate her.

Well done to her.

It's a snap shot, one that does nothing for me in any way as I detest the Royals - She didn't 'beat' 20 pros in terms of any kind of quality, it's simple right place, right time, I mean, for people who love looking at boring images of the boring Royals.

It’s been a lot of good PR for the iPhone, every news item makes a big deal of it having been taken with one.

Who cares if it does nothing for you?
It's not about you! :D

Out of idle interest does anyone know how much she might make from the shot?

I don't care if my opinion does nothing for you .... it's just that, my opinion. It's not about you either ... what a silly response. Is that not what we're supposed to do on these things, give our opinion? It's a crap photo of a some people I couldn't give a rat's rear about, scratching my head as to why it deserves front page news. That'll be the Irish in me though.

There will be a lot of sour grapes from "proper" camera users I think.... :p
It's started already....

Could you not have put both your nonsense remarks into one post? I see nobody expressing "sour grapes" - just some honest feedback. Why should it bother anyone outside of journo's who are desperate for front page? I don't think i have ever once looked at the front page of a tabloid and thought "Wow! what an image!" they're always snap shots, from people who happen to be there. As for "proper" camera users, that wouldn't be me sure, much more snobbish shooters would say my wee M43 cameras were mere toys :p An Iphone X is worth more than my whole kit atm

As pointed out, it's not a great photo, but instead a well-timed snap taken with a camera of acceptable quality for the use to which the image has been put.

As for why it's on every front page, that's so obvious it's not even worth mentioning. ;)

It just seems odd to people outside the UK maybe. But, I do know many Brits who despise the Royals too ... I still don't get it, I mean, did they do something amazing recently?

Nothing against the woman who shot it, I hope she milks the heck out of it, she saw an opportunity and took it nicely. My issue is more with the Royals than the image itself :D

Don't knock it. The only hard bit of any sort of photography is being in the right place at the right time. :D

I still don't get why the Royals casually taking a walk is front page news

Because it sells papers?

Because it sells papers?

Fairy muff ... still don't get it, never will. But I guess you're right, if people are buying, then feed them whatever it is they get excited over. I see 4 people having a walk about ... It happens over here too mind, Conor McGregor or whatever trend celebrity, goes for a pint in a bar in Dublin ... splashed all over every single newspaper. And I don't get that either.

It's a 'snap shot' that you didn't get or are unlikely to get. It's also by far the best editorial shot of the day and easily beat the royal pool photographers who were confined to pens with limited view and no movement.

It's still a nothing snap shot to me, we can go in circles on it, it'll never make sense in my book. It's a shot of 4 people out for a walk. Must have been a very, very slow news day

You can stay in denial all you want. It's a cracking photo that made the front page of six national newspapers. Your continued rejection of the image says more about you than it.

And all six national newspapers that carried it on their front pages, obviously hadn't a clue what they were doing.....

We'd be better off with Donald Trump, or Kim Jong-Un eh? :-)

Yes it’s not the best photo in the world and yes it’s probably not the best image quality either but it ticked all the boxes and very obviously trumped all the better togs that day.

Right place, right time, right image.

So they didnt use it because she gave it away on twitter then? she was asked for free use and she said yes and gave permission.. then lots of people on twitter said she should eb selling it and now she thinks she can send her child to college on the back of it ... you couldnt make it up haha

sorry but I agree @Cagey75 its a nothing shot.... but because a member of public got it and put on twitter for free.. i think that was more the story and good luck to her.. i dont begrudge her whatever she gets out of it.. but I am not going to agree its a fantastic shot becuase it really isn't.. take away the story of women with camera and..

Out of interest, how many full front page photos like this have you had?

There are several dozen press photographers (including members of the pool) that would disagree with you Tony. It's the two princes and their other halves performing naturally in a photograph. That almost never happens in front of press cameras because they know where the press pens are and they act accordingly.
Hence you've got all four, nicely lined up in the same frame laughing and enjoying themselves. And smiling at the camera (well most of them).

Oh and the PDA's...

The future King holding hands with his wife. That you won't see very often, if ever again.

Trust me, it would have been. That was easily the best shot of the day! :)

Did you not any of the posts you decided to lunge in on top of then?

Why should it bother anyone outside of journo's who are desperate for front page?

And I have actually had images published on the front page of a few papers when we were fund raising for our daughter, y'know, actual news ... look it up if you're so interested. But I think you're just another Royal fanboy.

The main image of the papers here was of river rescue workers scouring the river Boyne for bodies, they found one that had been missing for 24 days just today, I find this more worthy than a crap image of 4 yuppies, yes.

It's not just 4 people though, it's 4 very famous people that a lot of people are interested in.

I still don't give a rat's, maybe you might cut it out and frame it and pray to it daily, but that doesn't mean it's a great image nor a worthy front page. Millions watch X-Factor too, and millions of others think it's s***e. Just because you love it doesn't mean I have to, nor that I can't express an opinion about it.

I had missed that bit, so she wants mega money now because it hit big, when she originally gave permission to use it for free? Money grab much!

Precisely, if it had been a journalist who shot this, we wouldn't even be discussing it. I'd still hate the fact it got front page, but the rest wouldn't be overly defending it

I didn't say I loved it or that it was a great picture.
Now your starting to come across as a complete fud.
Just my opinion mind.

I think you're the 'fud' mate, getting all antsy over someone else's opinion. Get a grip and go have a wee sleep there Bob, there's worse happening in the world

Take your own advice and stop getting all antsy over someone else's picture.
Sleep tight

Why does it bother you? I could have said the image was absoloute s*8t if I really wanted to stir, and it would still be none of your business. Instead I picked at it for being of some random Royals, which is of no interest to as many as get over excited by it. Is everything black and white to you Bob? Do you believe we should all agree on everything or stay quiet?

It doesn't bother me.

Unless all the top brass of the Newspapers don't know what they are doing or the photo is a good lure to get average joe to pick up the paper.......

I'm guessing they are very clever at what they do in the world of selling paper with ink on it in huge quantity....

The reasons this photo is all over the news can be down to:-

1 - The photo is so unique that no other professionals managed to capture a shot with 2 of the 4 looking in the same direction.
2 - She said "yes" when the first couple of people asked her if they can use it and then they have all been using it, and thus those people took that to pass the photo on (see it many times here)
3 - She doesn't know what it is worth and has sold it far undervalued so everyone just paid her like pittance to put it on their front page.
4 - In the short space of time she managed to figure out the value of what she has, negotiated a price and got what she deserved.

I have a feeling it is likely to be mostly 2 with some of 3.

They must have thought the picture was the best available at the end of the day.

You could not pay them a vast quantity of money to put a snap on their front cover unless it was exactly what they were after.

This sort of s*** is why TP is going down hill..................

Argue over anything, nothing to do with photography, just opioniated rubbish.................

IMHO

What shocked me was how much hair he has lost from last time i saw a photo of the duke, can see they have different fathers though.wasnt the captain H involved.

Part of the reason why it’s made front pages (and is being talked about) is that it’s a cute and natural shot.

But I suspect the bigger reason is that the fact it was taken on an iPhone makes it a story in itself. It gets people talking, and Apple must be loving it...

Like others have said, had it been taken by a press photographer this thread (and argument) wouldn’t be here.

As an aside, I’m neither for nor against the Royals, but I do have some time for Harry as I think he’s managed to use his position to some good. The Invictus games in particular.
