I have been given an iPhone (an old 3G) which I intend to get unlocked. Do I need a specific SIM for iPhone, or can I use my old/existing SIM (from an even older Nokia phone)? I just need PAYG for voice/text really, but data would be useful.
 
Worst case they use "microSIMs" - if you have reasonable hand-eye co-ordination and an appropriately sharp implement, you can cut down a normal miniSIM.

Worst case you screw it up and have to call your phone provider for a new SIM
 
The 3G and 3GS use standard size SIMS so no cutting involved. The microsim is used from the iPhone 4
 
as above no cutting needed just pop the sim in
on the iphone you will need to import the sim contacts from your sim card or they will not show up
settings>mail,contacts>import sim contacts

As I said "worst case" - as it turns out, it's not worst case.
