Wondering if anyone had made the switch from iPhone to Samsung and how it was?

Somehow I'm just a bit non plussed with all things iPhone at present for some reason, and looking at most of what I use, it's either Google Apps, Google Photos or Chrome on my iPhone, so was considering buying a cheap(ish) Samsung Galaxy 4 to test the Android waters to see how I got on with it before casting my iPhone 6 Plus aside.

Just interested to know if anyone had done likewise and their thoughts.

Went iPhone to S4 now back to a Iphone 6, and probably just stay with iPhone. I do like Android but felt it was hard work

I went from a s3 to iphone 4 and then to moto g and not had any issues. If it does not have to be samsung try out the new moto g as they are stock android.

I think you get far more for your money with android - a work colleague has an iphone 6plus and i compared it with my android nexus 6

it is almost the same size yet only has a 5.5" screen instead of 6"
it has 44% lower screen resolution
it easily bends :D
he paid £140 more
it has 66% less ram
it has 50% less storage
is only dual core (not quad)

I went from iPhone 4s to Samsung Galaxy S5 and don't regret it. I thought it might be a pain as I have the iPad and iMac but not at all. The battery on the Samsung is far better than the iPhone, bigger screen, great camera. I don't know how it would compare to the iPhone 6 but I'm more than happy I made the change.

Not done a switch, but daughter has a HTC one running Android and loves it and she has no issues at all, she won't entertain an iPhone now...

Went iphone 5 to Samsung S3 and now back on iphone 6 plus. I just prefer the feel of the iphones and the OS.

Also, my favourite was the iphone 4s and I feel now as if all the phones are too light for my shovels.

Cheers guys, interesting reading... keep it coming, all food for thought!

I went from a HTC (Android) to iPhone (4) to a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (Android). Don't think I'd go back currently. Would only go to the iPhone 6plus if I was to change back and its just so expensive. Love the larger screen on the Note 3.

Went from iPhone 5 to Sony Z3+ after months of indecision.
No regrets so far.

Did the same switch late last year. Wife still has iPhone. I won't be going back. Samsung Note3 beats iPhone hands down.
Do it.

Iphone 4s to sony z3.. Easy peasy, no hassle no iTunes struggles, less grey hair....whats not to like :D

Don't do it!..my wife opted for a Samsung galaxy s4 at the time I went for an iPhone 5s..she hates the Samsung and p***es me off by keep asking "whats wrong with my phone"..

Don't know if it is the phone or the OS. A mate who always had iphones tried a oneplus phone and hated it, sold it after a week and bought an iPhone.

Had an iphone 6 for about 11 months now, first IOS phone, and imho they are so well sorted that they just work with little or no hassle. Got a bit bored with it TBH so ordered a Galaxy 6 from Amazon but sent it back after about a week. Finger print recognition was pretty hopeless - believe they released an update to fix that and battery life, for me, was worse than the iphone. Galaxy was a nice looking phone with slightly better camera though.

On a value for money argument Android will always win. From a longevity and support perspective iPhones are unparalleled.
I use an iPhone as I was sick of my multiple android phones crashing on secure email applications (Good tech, Airwatch etc) that were used for work. I have not suffered those same issues on Iphones.

I've flicked between both devices numerous times. The inner geek prefers Androids, but the sensible side sticks with iPhones, for now.

I'm in the same boat, I have an Ipad air 2 64gb gsm & still using a Iphone 4s, eldest daughter jumped ship two years ago & has just bought herself a new LG G4 and given me her old S4 Mini to try
she wont go back IOS, at present I have the S4 setup just like my 4S. I'm in two minds at present about getting a LG G4

I have jumped between IOS and Android many times, usually due to just being bored and fancied a change. Both have advantages and disadvantages. At the moment I prefer IOS no doubt that will change again in the future might even do a jump to Windows.

I am in the same boat, and very tempted to switch to windows totally.

Depending on how bothered you are about apps, have you considered Windows Phone. I switched from iPhone 4S to a Lumia 925 a couple of years ago and was really impressed with the OS and basic apps (email, office, etc). The availability of apps has improved a fair bit in that time however, having just moved to an iPhone 6 at work, I'm noticing a few of the iOS apps are much more polished than the Windows versions. I'm actually quite enjoying the iPhone 6 at work but want something different for home.

I'm currently considering upgrading my personal phone. Currently looking at S6 or a Lumia because I've really come to like the wireless charging with my Lumia. I'm noticing the Lumias with functionality built in are quite a bit cheaper than the S6.

I'm also a little undecided about Android. My previous experiences (albeit a few years ago) left me thinking it just wasn't polished enough. I'm hoping things have changed, I guess I need to have a play with a newer version.

Funnily enough I get the same questions regarding friends iPhones, I've got a 4S (used for work) as well as my Nexus 5, and to be honest the 4S has been horrendous in terms of battery life and various glitches.

I'm not saying Android is perfect, but Apple hardware and iOS has been on a downward spiral of late and is also far from perfect.

Would probably bet that your S4 problem is touchwiz related, glad Samsung have lightened it a lot in the later iterations.

Lol this is exactly the kind of answer I would expect from the typical android user. So obsessed with specs.

Too much hard work for my liking.

Kind of agree with the spec's thing, it is something that is usually compared and has minimal bearing on the subject, however stating that it's a "typical android user" thing is a bit lame and screams of a fanboy argument waiting to happen, lets not bring it down to that level ;)

Did the opposite. Oneplus One 64gb > iPhone 5s 64gb.

On the above regarding spec sometimes it does matter. Speed of menus, lag, better sound, better camera, better battery life etc can all be achieve from different technical specs.

I was referring to the iPhone side of things mate, it's like comparing apples to oranges (excuse the pun), the iPhone has lower spec's on paper, but manages to run everything smoothly within it's iOS environment due to the way it handles (or doesn't) multitasking, whereas the droids are more relevant with specification, memory being key in my opinion.

Hows the OnePlusOne? I've got the Nexus 5 and waiting for a new N5 to be released, however the OnePlus 2 is looking pretty good...

Sorry I didn't mean it that way, it's just something normally wheeled out, yet rather irrelevant unless comparing two entry level older android phones. All current top of the pile phones are absolutely fine hardware wise. Heck overspecced I would say in many cases.

If I were to go back to android I'd only be looking for vanilla or as good as vanilla android versions in order to get regular and timely updates and patches.

Changed from an iPhone long ago to an HTC at first then to Samsung. Initiallya note 2 and now I have a note 3 and love it. I'm looking at the S6 Edge+ later in the year. I wouldn't go back to Apple again.
It really depends on personal preferences, they all do much the same these days.

I went from iphone to android and regretted it almost immediately. I tried both Samsung Galaxy 4 then HTC one M8 then I realised it wasn't the phones, it's Android I can't get on with. With Apple everything just works, no faffing about, I have a Mac and an Ipad so everything integrates seamlessly.

Interesting discussion. I've had iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, and now on iPhone 6 - in succession. Daughter has iPhone 5S, previously on 4S. Wife on iPhone 5C, previously iPhone 4S. Oldest son used to be iPhone also, but switched to android a few phones ago ahd has had a couple of HTC models and a couple of Samsungs. I'm only now getting phone-envy looking at his Samsung S6 Edge (think that's what it's called). Really lovely looking phone. Not wishing to tempt fate but if I dropped my iPhone 6 tomorrow I'd be sorely tempted...

From an android perspective I've always had Samsung until I switched to the Sony Xperia Z3 which is excellent. I use Google apps & Google drive and sync with my PC desktop and been more than happy. Biggest bonus is being able to put my music on it (never used iTunes) only downside is with a big phone wish I had gone for the compact.

I often have ienvy but it soon wears off, being able to use my own memory cards, music, etc :)

I never get the music argument. I've never bought a song on iTunes in my life. Yet somehow magically it seems all my music is on my phone ;)

That same music library has been shared over the years with Android, Palm WebOs, Blackberry 10, Windows and iOS devices.

Sorry but I think it's an urban myth and a lot of b*****ks. Each to their own choice naturally but let's be honest about capabilities.

I've shared my music over several platforms too.
I liked my iPhone, but didn't particularly like iTunes.
I can drag and drop any music/movie content onto my android very easily using the micro sd card. No iTunes required, and that's one of the things I like about my android phone over my iPhone.
I'm still an apple user with my mac and ipad though

i never saw the problem with itunes. yeah okay it was never very fast but it mostly worked. i still use it and isyncr to save me having to redo my library and podcasts, that works really well too. and as dejongj said, always imported my existing music and for the most part never bought from apple (unless it just was not available elsewhere).

I have IPhone 6 and Sony Z2 and Samsung s4, i find anything android is hard work compared to Apples stuff, i have tried and i do have to use it daily for work as its what they supply. Its a very subjective topic as you'll always get fan boys from both sides.
Also a few of the apps i use like Geocaching and others on IOS are seamless and real-time, androids attempt is kinda not real time and again hardwork.

I did a lot of consultancy work for the fortune 100 on mobility and we tested everything, from user interfaces Security etc, Android came last due to the fact most vendors have their own variants, thus security wise it would never get approved unless nailed shut by mobile iron or something. Apples is consistent its the same... Windows mobile dare i say it came 2nd and was pretty good.

You can try it have the honeymoon period like we all have when you get your new spangly Android then after 3 months you sell it and go back to Apple. I even bought the Z2 tablet tried like mad to like it but gave up and went to Air 2. But what i will say is if you do go Android Sonys units are bar far the best built, and the new Z5 coming soon is the first 4k screen yeah i know 4k on a phone LOL.. Samsungs get the most press but are pretty flimsy and not a choice i would spend 600 on. Sony if anything...

Good luck.

I don't think you would be using nightly builds on corporate devices @neil_g

Having said that even if different android vendors have different security implementations, it isn't that much hardship to stick to one manufacturer consistently - like you would do with Apple or Microsoft.

Personally I much prefer Android, the hardware home button is a minus for me, much prefer capacitive and context sensitive buttons, plus there is no back button on iPhones!
