Wow, ordered my 16Gb iPhone on Friday and it arrived today whilst I was at work. Activated it and I can't believe how easy it is on the internet. Map zooms in to where you are. Syncs with the Mac. Wow this is really COOOOOOLLL.

Drool drool.... wow!

Welcome to the iPhone club, has yours had the January update?

It added a few nice touches to the original launch software, there was also a wee update in feb to fix a few other bugs and also support sdk

Its just updated to the latest software. I'm just setting up iTunes to sync to the ipod and iphone with different lists at the moment so haven't used it since. Just deciding about the photos now! Need to get used to the keyboard! My nokia 9500 was really good. Its seems a shame it to be just sat there now!

Very nice, it's always nice to have a new toy :)

I'm personally not that impressed with the iPhone TBH as I've had similar functionality (internet on the move with music play back) for the last 5 years owning a series of XDAs. My current phone PDA combo connects to the internet at over 1Mbps which is significantly faster than the iPhone (roughly 56kbps). I have full mapping using Google Maps, Tom Tom and OS Maps using different solutions. I can have upto 3GB of transfer a month (even through my Laptop) and with £60 of call credit costs £37 a month and my device was free when I got it. I have a full QWERTY keyboard built in and OK I'm limited to 2GB of data (music, data, video, photos etc) on a micro SD card I can have as many of these as I like so effectively my data storage is unlimited. It is now over a year old and in 5 months I'll probably be upgrading a new device that has GPS built in, at the moment I have to use my bluetooth GPS receiver.

That said I have looked at the iPhone and as with all apple devices the interface is very slick (the 2 touch screen is very impressive and one that i think is currently unique to apple??) and I am sure that once the iPhone is competitive on a functionality basis i.e. 3G capable, has a Sat Nav option (with traffic), allows me to share the internet with my laptop and is available on different networks I'll probably get one.

I have looked at the alternatives but I am seriously into Apple kit and this syncs faultlessly with mine. It does everything that I want from a phone/pda/mp3 player. At work I have a computer. At home I have a computer. I can add the odd calendar entry whilst out but view all of them and it is supremely portable.

Its a case of each to their own I suppose. The speed of the internet connection is adequate for browsing web sites which is all I would use that for so all in all i'm happy :)

I've gone through the pda phase, for me......Iphone does what I need better.
Not sure where your coming from with the 56k bit though as it has 802.11 b/g wiifi capability which works in more places than you'd expect :)

cowii......you say your syncing an ipod and the iphone on the same itunes account? how?
i had you use my main machine with my mini and my lappy for the fone

You just set up a playlist called say ipod and another called iphone. You drag all the stuff you want to each one so you can have different things on either. You then click on the device and then click on music and then click on selected playlists and select the relevant one for each device!

you all have too much money

i have viewty. does much of the stuff iphone does, but without requiring second mortgage to o2 every month!

Don't bring money into it......your just not worthy of owning a technological miracle such as iPhone......come back when your cool

I like the I-Phone right up to the point whee I would need to connect away from a wifi area when it become useless. No HSDPA support and no proper support for java. Looks funky but then so does an I-pod touch that does pretty much the same apart from not being a phone.

The being tied to O2 is also a pain which is why I bought a Samsung G800, 5MP camera, MP3 and HSDPA. OK so it doesn't look as good but it was free, the best value for money by far. I'd wait till later in the year for the 16GB 3g version.

I will treat myself to a 3g one when this contract is up and flog this one on ebay!

It costs £35 a month for 500 texts and 600 minutes plus unlimited internet (yes not the fastest but usable for what I want!)

+ £270 for the phone
+ locked into O2 for 18 months

The I-phone looks good but I don't think it's worth touching your toes for ;)

+1, biting down on the rubber ball aint for me! When my current contract expires i might look again...

Whilst the iPhone is good, I don't think it justifies the huuuuuuuugggggeee price tag attached to it.

I paid 329 for the 16gb and still think it is worth it for me anyway

The cost of phone is slightly over priced, but its the contract that's the killer.

That's the problem with apple stuff. People buy it because it's cool, not because it's the most functional bit of kit. For every Apple product there is another company making an equivalent that does everything and more. In saying that I have an 80gig iPod and a macbook pro at home and use an iMac at work.

Just to stir things up a little.

I was paying 35 gbp on my nokia n73 contract that was just ending, so nothing changed for me there....I wanted another ipod as my mini was dying....so it made sense to combine the 2 gadgets in my pocket and free up some space :D

Iphone does what it's supposed to do, and looks great into the bargain.

Matty......I hear you do an impression of Marsellus Wallace for a pack of polo's.....anyone that cheap doesn't deserve an iphone :D

lmfao

thanks

I don't think £35 is too much for unlimited internet access, 500 texts and 600 minutes! The price of £269 or £329 is not unrealistic when you consider what you get.

I like the iPhone because of the seamless integration with my Apple computers, the seamless switch between mobile phone and wireless network internet access, it has all the utilities I like, it will read pdf, word and excel files, it looks good, it works!, I know how much the bill will be at the end of the month, I can use it as a quality MP3 player. It's multi-touch screen is second to none, and it is the first device of this size that I can actually use realistically to view A4 docs and full internet web pages.

This is JUST MY VIEW of the iPhone. I had a Nokia 9500 before and it promised to do almost everything that the iPhone does - mp3, organiser, web access, wireless lan access, organiser etc. But this like most other devices will not sync with the Apple Mac other than sending one calendar or address book entry at a time also the we browser was about 20-50 times slower than that of the iPhone!! The keyboard was good though!

Anyway, yes, I would have preferred the 3G version but it isn't out so this will do fine and the most important thing is that I like it. I haven't bought it because it is trendy or cool (although it is!) the main selling point was the integration.

Cowii....ignore the rest of the heathen masses, you can join mine and Ven's exclusive club :D

Of course the Syncing to Apple devices thing may be a big difference and I agree the multi touch interface is impressive, as you say it's all personal choice. I'm glad you are enjoying it :) As I said as soon as they bring the iPhone to 3G, allow it to act as a modem for your computer (or internet sharing) and allow choice of networks then I'll can almost certainly say I'll look seriously at it (and probably get it).

I'm just quite suprised by the adverts implying that internet on the move is new, as I've said I've had full internet via my connected device for the last 5 years, it's only over the last year it's actually been reasonably cost effective.

If the company that I'm a distributor for wasn't tied to T-Mobile then I'd have been first in the queue for the iphone. And I may still get one ssssssh! Even though I think my blackberry with free net access (anywhere in the world) is awesome.

So, in summary, I'm envious. There, I've said it.

Gits.

Why thank you!

I do find it funny when that people bawlk about spending about £329 on a phone which in my case will give me 2-3 years virtually constant daily use! Even with the £35 a month it is only £11.25 a week. Thats without a residual value (probably £100 or so) so about £10 per week. (and that is for the 16Gb version)

Yes I am sure they could do a deal where you don't pay a start figure but I am sure they would charge £55 per month!

Yes the advert is a little odd ! My 3 year old Nokia 9500 (which wasn't newly out even then) has GSM access for web browsing, computer connectivity to use as a modem, wireless network connection, organiser, mp3 player with headphones, address book etc etc. Like I said earlier nearly everything that the iPhone has but it just does not work with the Mac and that completely ruins it for me. If I was still using a PC I wouldn't change my phone.

I did look at the blackberry last year but it worked out at about £70 a month (not sure if this has changed since) but it just didn't have the full feature list! But yes a cracking good device.

No the iPhone certainly isn't perfect by any stretch. Lack of 3G; not the best keyboard in the world; expensive; lack of memory card slot; inability to change the battery whilst out and about and not the best battery life (if today is anything to go by) but today it is the best thing for me.

It has totally ruined by new lens fund though! :bang:

its the line rental i dont like. i only pay £20 a month and struggle to use the free minutes (300/up to 600 texts), on the rare occasions i use the net it only costs 75p, though i do have webnwalk free for a month, lol...

i like iphone, i just dont like o2, if it had been on t mobile i would have made the 'i love iphone' thread...i played with one in carphone warehouse when they were released and liked it, the viewty isnt bad, can do the landscape webpage, gsm, mp3, youtube, divx etc so its ok for me

snot my fault

wasnt me! got it off someone else i tells ya!

Has anyone else got the Pox?

Or is it just Matty........yup, thought so......you were so distraught about not having iPhone you went on nawty sites in an attempt to console yourself

was looking for ringtones...you can use anything for a ringtone on iphone cant you? no? itunes only?? bummer...
