iPhone firmware v3 (MMS/tethering??)

I have now entered into my last 3 months of my orange contract, and I am considering pulling out and getting an iphone.

With all the rumors considered, what would your advice be peeps? wait or take the jump now?

Rob

I'd wait (well that's what I am doing!). Good chance there will be a new model out by the end of june/start of July.

I don't believe that there will be an iPhone Nano. There is no point to one. None of the apps will work on it because there would be a different screen resolution and internet browsing/phone use would be terrible because of the smaller screen.
The iPhone's screen is hardly impressive when you look at the stats. 480 x 320 in a 3.5" screen?

If they release the Nano, and I really think they will, you'll see the same resolution in a smaller screen.

Sorry, I didn't mean resolution I meant size. It will be too small to work well as a touch screen or web browser or movie viewer etc.

I certainly don't disagree with you about the size issues, but given that Apple are prone to doing some bloody stupid things, I wouldn't put it past them to release an iPhone that was missing one of it's biggest 'selling' points.

Yeah they are good at that. As long as the new full size iPhone has 32Gb then it will be very close to perfect for me.

I think there's a live blog happening around 1pm EST.

/snip from Apple web site

On March 17th, Apple presented the blueprint for iPhone OS 3.0, the next version of the world’s most advanced mobile platform. In addition to previewing its innovative features, Apple gave members of the iPhone Developer Program immediate access to the iPhone OS 3.0 software beta and an updated Software Development Kit (SDK) with over 1,000 completely new APIs.

For iPhone owners, it just keeps getting better. When iPhone OS 3.0 arrives this summer it will introduce over 100 new features, including the ability to:

Search your iPhone
Cut, copy and paste
Send photos, contacts, audio files and location via MMS
Read and compose email and text messages in landscape

It looks good! Seems as though they've listened to what people actually wanted. No mention yet of the next iPhone though. :(

Mms doesn't bother me tbh, rest of the world should get with the program and use mobile email.

Love the c+p and search though

Yup, that's the biggy for me

Lack of MMS has never caused me a problem. Copy & paste and inability to forward a text message is a real pain though ;)

The mms will have some use but it is a couple of years late. Of would have been handy with the first iPhone but now most new phones give access to email it is less use. My biggy is tethering! Apple have confirmed that too and unlike our friends over the pond our 3G network is more capable. Hopefully o2 should allow it.

O2's 3G is crap. I get better speeds on Edge than 3G even with a full 3G signal. Actually in the US their Edge network is faster than our 3G network bizarrely.

The new features sound good - unfortunately I don't have an iphone but I develop for them and macs so I've got to learn the new features of the SDK :(:help:

There are some good apps from this site if anyone sees one they like (includes objective c source code for developers)
