I tend to buy every 3 generations (if that's the correct terminology), so as I currently have a '6' I will get something new next year. Then it's a bigger jump usually, I also just buy the handset outright, I have a sim only contract that I'm happy with and I'm not tied to a contract if I needed to change. I moved down to rural Devon 12 months ago and had been with O2 for years, and I couldn't get a signal anywhere within miles of my house. It was easy to cancel, had to go to Vodafone.
The iPhone 7 isn't going to be a huge upgrade, anyone interested in the technology knows pretty much everything about it by now as there have been so many leaks. Rumours are that Apple are doing less for this one and then the next version will have a big jump. Usually the 's' models that follow a year later are the smaller update, this time it's like having two smaller updates to the iPhone 6. It's going to look basically the same, I'm not sure how I feel about the headphone socket if I honest. I don't have Bluetooth headphones, I was looking at some for a while but I like the convenience of just plugging them in when I want them, not worrying if they have any charge left. I don't wear them out, only at home, so wireless isn't really convenient for me, a wire isn't inconvenient either.
I'm hoping the next version will have wireless charging as that would be more useful, I get through a fair few charging cables. And I'm hoping by losing the headphone socket, making it wireless charging, making the Home button solid that the phone will be a lot more water resistant. I don't drop it into water, and I would want to, but it's nice to have peace of mind and I don't like taking my phone out of my pocket if it's raining - paranoid I'll damage it I guess.
It does make you wonder where the technology is heading over the next few years, look at how far it's come in the last 10 years compared to many other devices. We don't need most of the developments of course, it's just a race of the companies to add features to be better than each other. I've always used iPhones since the first version. I found that phone the other day actually, it wouldn't start up, I thought it may be fun to try it again. I love how it looks and feels, it's nicer to hold than the latest models - they are too light and don't fit well in my hand, I always buy a case to keep mine in as I just feel like I'm going to drop it the whole time.
I'm not at all fussed about which is faster or has better features, I just like what I buy and buy what I like, some of the Android phones look really nice, but I don't want to learn a new way of using a phone and mine just syncs up,to my iPad and backs up everything online nicely. I like not worrying about it. When I get a new iPhone I stick my details in and within 10 minutes or so it's setup with all my apps, pics, music etc all in the same places, settings all the same, email all setup and my messages on the handset - nice and easy.
I'm looking forward to the new MacBook Pros coming out, long overdue, I sold my MacBook Air 3 years ago now and have just been using a second generation iPad Air as my main computer since, as much as I manage with it and don't miss a laptop I want to get one especially for photo editing.
