Long story short, Vodafone won't unlock my contract network iPhone 5c because it had a fault and apple replaced it, therefore that causes some complication! Apparently!

So a quick search on eBay reveals this - http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=271927027206&globalID=EBAY-GB

Looks alright to me , I don't want to pay more than £20 to unlock it. Any advice if people with more knowledge?

Before you go spending money on an unlock service just re-set your iPhone back to factory settings and then try a non Vodaphone SIM card in it

If is a replacement direct from apple then in theory it should be unlocked already

I have trie that - it was originally on Vodafone contract, apple then replaced it under AppleCare, so it's still on Vodafone. I put an O2 sim and it just says it's not suitable unfortunately

If it was replaced direct by apple then it will be unlocked

You would need to totally re-set the phone, as if it were brand new out of the box, and then try a new SIM card

If it is still saying it is locked to Vodaphone then its not a direct from apple replacement, it would more than likely be one of Vodaphones own in house re-furbs

I have done all that, it was replaced in the Apple Store while I was there with a replacement, and it was restarted to a new one but still wouldn't work with the O2 sim, u less I'm missing something here?

Apple do not hand out locked phones new or otherwise

Once the phone has been totally wiped and re-set you need to stick your new SIM, connect it to iTunes and set it up as new iPhone

You are wrong, any Apple replacement has the same lock status as the item being replaced. If the original was locked to Vodafone then the replacement will be locked to Vodafone.

This is done from serial number and is part of the replacement process.

I've used this guy to unlock an iPhone 5s from Vodafone, it was done in 3 days (including a weekend).

It also helps that it's cheaper than your link ;).

I was on the understanding that Apple stopped doing this some time ago

Apple have never changed their procedure, the lock status of the replacement is always the same as the original.

Many people wrongly confuse the fact that Apple only sold unlocked handsets when no one else did, even that is incorrect, if you buy an iPhone from an Apple Store on contract or as an upgrade it will also be locked to the network it is sold on.

The only way to get an unlocked iPhone from Apple is by paying full price for a sim free iPhone or as a replacement for an unlocked iPhone.

if your vodaphone contract has expired ,then they are obliged to unlock it for you whether its a replacement or not ,if the original contract is still running then your stuck with it .but whichever you still have to go through vodaphone to do it

Thank guys! Alright, so it is still on the contract it's about 8 months into the contract now. I've decided I'm going to give Daves suggestion a go - with Vodafone it's £18, so going through here is a bit cheaper anyway! So hopefully we'll be sorted then! Thanks people!

You are absolutely right. I've had mine replaced by means of accidental "repair" direct by apple in store. It remains locked and they place a sticker over the original imei on the box as theirs comes in this brown little box.

It was no trouble getting it unlocked by Vodafone after my contract was up. Vodafone checks against your contract sim and whether it was eligible, if so then it passes the information on to Apple who within 48 hours update their servers.

Once you receive the second email from Vodafone you can pop in another sim. It will then complain about having to activate. And when you connect to iTunes and activate your phone with Apple a message will appear that your phone is now unlocked. There after you can pop in anysim.

I've literally just know gone through that process with my wife's phone. She's off to Oz and for that time will be on Three with their excellent feel-at-home rates. We then realised my old iPhone 5S was still locked. Now this phone has been replaced twice! I contacted Vodafone with my account and subscriber details, and new imei. Next day I got a confirmation email, two days later I got the completion email.

If they aren't doing it for the op I would suggest that one of the variables isn't correct. Firstly are you actually eligible? Have you ever used that phone with the contract that is eligible to be unlocked. Are your payments up to date? Did you type in the details correctly.

Lol seriously!? Time waster :p :)

yeah but you can still get them unlocked, Vodafone said so! And yeah, all bills paid its just the usual direct debit thing!

Ofcourse you can, but being under contract different rules apply ;) as in you'll have to pay for it.

Aye, I known have to pay for it, but they still refuse! Such a headache - I only want it unlocked so I can give it to the oh! Oh well, I've used that company David suggested on eBay so we shall see I hope!
