Iphone 5 ime

Hi,i'm arranging a swap with my Sony Z2 ,the guy gave me the ime number so i could verify the age of the phone . Is this possible because i've drawn a blank up to now .

I don't think the imei gives the age of the device? Although it can be tampered with anyway with access to the right kit.

Do you know this guy?

If its a 5 it'll be aged between sept 2012 and sept 2013 anyway.

I havent heard of any method to tamper with an iPhone IMEI, do you have more info?

You can check if the phone is still within warranty, and if it is, it will tell you date of first activation.

Check it at https://selfsolve.apple.com/

With the iPhone serial number (not the same as the IMEI) you can check the manufacture week at http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html

Don't know the seller, he said it was six months old, possibly meetting him tomorrow. Not that familiar with the iPhone 5 so any tips might come in handy

Check it in the first link I posted then, it will confirm activation date and warranty end date.

Probably a good idea, I'd be surprised to see a 6 month old iPhone 5, they were discontinued pretty quickly after the 5c/5s launched (15 months ago) as they don't have all the required LTE bands for the UK.

In my opinion, look for a 5c/5s as a minimum, it's a lot more future proof than the 5.

Not to hand only what I read somewhere a while ago, its supposed to be tamper proof but apparently doable with access to the right tools.

But yeah, 5 was discontinued sept 2013 so will be at least 15 months old unless someone had some old model stock for sale up until 6 months ago.

The only "tools" to change an iPhone IMEI are in Apples' possession, there is no aftermarket tool or software that can do it.

I'm sure its fine though, would be rare if anything. Hopefully.

It exists in the factories and dev labs, I highly doubt they would be changing IMEI's when they could just help themselves to a pallet of phones

And factory tools in China or the U.S. aren't going to be used by some Gumtree seller that mxfun was dealing with.

Perhaps it's better to try it before professing to tell others how it works?

It will accept either an IMEI or a serial, and calls both serial numbers.

Alright no need to be an arse.

The apple site clearly says enter SERIAL number. And you then go on to post the results that say results for serial : [ops imei]

But I'll just shut up because I'm clearly in the wrong here.
