iPhone 5 - Anybody getting one?

I have had every model of iPhone due to contracts but my favourite mobile phone was the Nokia Communicator 9500. If there were a modern equivalent running IOS that would be perfect for me. An actual keyboard and when you close it the computer screen is protected with a tiny screen for the phone bit. :D

Had a Nokia Communicator back in 2000, one of the Smartest Smartphones ever made!

It's amazing how many people think that the smartphone was invented in 2007. I even read a few days ago an article which began "when Apple invented the touch screen phone in 2007..." No they didn't! XDA anyone?

Anyway, I do like my iPhone 4S :-)

Got mine today, well ahead of the predicted 1st October. Way faster than my old 4, much better all over really.

So anybody having the funny screen issues that have been reported?

Flickering screen and bubble screen?

Nope! First I've heard of those "issues"?

XDA? Pfft! The Palm Treo 180 was launched months before the XDA in Feb 2002.

Aggressive? Sorry wasn't supposed to be, didn't think it was.

So far mines been spot on, no issues what so ever.

Just read that article and it seems they are blowing it out of proportion. It said "some users were reporting blurred areas of the screen" - its known that that's a single user from Mac forums who had a damaged handset.

OK No worries, no foul

Thinking I may just stick with my 4, it does what I want it to do and that's what matters to me at the end of the day

Exactly, the 4 is good enough and if you're happy with it there's no need to upgrade. I find with the iPhones it's best to wait at least 3 generations anyway, which is what I just did and the upgrade makes much more of a difference!

I love the communicators! I used to have an E90 and loved it! It went back to O2 for the microphone to be replaced, and they gave me a new one which had a dead pixel. I lived with it for a while and decided to get it replaced... but they gave me an E71 in its place. At the time i was chuffed but now i am absolutely gutted!

I want an E90!

Never, until Apple increase the screen size of the screen like normal people, I will be sticking with my Galaxy Note.

They just did increase the size of the screen, and if you think of a phablet like the Note as being a "normal" size screen most phones must be annoyingly small to you.

I'd say even the Galaxy SIII is a tad on the large side for easy one handed operation.
The iphone5 seems about right in terms of screen size and has the advantage of native 16:9 if you want to watch a movie

The Note is neither a good phone, nor a good tablet IMO, the reason being, it's too big for a phone (for me) and too small for a tablet (for me). I did like the look of the Note and tried one when they first came out and decided to keep my old phone and get the iPad 3. Very glad I did!

I had a Note for a while and would agree with you, it's stupidly big as a phone (I always thought of Dom Joly and that giant phone sketch he did when I used it as a phone) but too similar in overall size to something like a Nexus 7 if you want to carry a small tablet.

It fails on both counts when compared to its alternatives.

I thought the same thing when I first bought the phone but after a few days I got used to the size and I cant see myself going back to a screen as small as the iPhones! I would however consider the S3 screen size.

Got an iphone5 at the weekend and loving it, much faster than my 4, and lovely to hold. Very pleased I made the change.

Considering getting a 5 at some stage, If nothing else but to have the additional screen space. I'm a freelance designer for iOS and Android and more and more of my clients are asking for 5-compatible apps...just makes sense I get one.

Not sure I like the back-texture tho...maybe I'll get used to it.
