Got an iPad recently and it's a brill device for what it does.

I suppose an iPhone is a iPod with phone capabilties?

Updated 13th September 8.05AM

Apple just confirmed the pricing of the 32GB and 64GB models of the iPhone 5 to us here in the UK

So the pricing for the three different models is as follows,

16GB iPhone 5 will be £529,
32GB iPhone 5 will be £599
64GB iPhone 5 will be £699.

At over £500 for a mobile phone - am I the only one that thinks that this is :cuckoo:

Just wondered if anyone if getting one and why?

Might get it depending on contract prices!

32GB seems to be priced reasonably(?)

the previous iphones didn't impress me that much, so this one even less

quite liking the new samsung tab 2 though...

I'm now out of contract (just) on both our iPhone4s (that's 2x iPhone 4 - not iPhone4S :) )

I'll be getting the 32GB i5 and using it with a £12.50 per month sim-only contract. 600min/2000txt/500mb

Mrs Blue can't make up her mind. Nothing new there :bang:

Macs are pretty much essential items for me now and have been since Bondi iMac, and I love iPads so the obvious choice of phone was iPhone but as much as I want to love them I just cannot get on with them and on 3 occasions now found myself heading back to Blackberry..

its mainly a battery life thing with me, I just cannot trust one to get me through the day.

TO me it's very much like iphone v android = canon v nikon

They basically do the same thing, just different layouts and options. I tried a 3Gs for a year then got a bit grumpy with itunes, the fact I could not change the battery easily or add in a micro sd card, so plumped for android.

As it is, my sim card (not phone!) is locked in for another 12 months or so, so depending on what is available then... who knows...

?

Galaxy S3 was £499 at launch and is arguably of a cheaper build quality (considering its all plastic). From that point of view, the iPhone is actually reasonably price in comparison. But, yes, still expensive.

My wife has an iPhone 4 and wants to upgrade to the iPhone 5. It's launched here on the 28th and she'll be getting one.
I'm happy to stay with my iPhone 4S.

the new iPhone 5 has a bigger screen, slimmer body and better battery.

Wow, sounds like they've invented the Galaxy S3

LAWSUIT!!!

Ordered mine too. Upgrading from an iPhone 4.

Yes it's expensive but I get on very well with mine and wouldn't be without. Considering the amount of time I spend on it it's a much better cost/time used than most of my gadgets.

might want to check that your network provider support the new nano sim.

As I found this morning - virgin dont support it.

New iPhone 5 takes nano sim - not micro and you cant cut it down either!

I will be getting one when I manage to shift the iPhone 4. O2 haven't advertised the new tarrifs yet but Orange have, I may move over as the missus and parents are all on Orange.

why do we bother with cameras someone has just sent me this had to LOL

its designed to fit perfectly in your hand... co's thats where your money used to be

A lot of people are talking about skipping this generation .... but we will probably find OS6 slows down our 4Ss enough to make us want to upgrade to the slightly faster 5 ...

i have placed an order, i skipped the 4s as i have a 4 and did not think it was worth upgrading
looking forward to getting it now as ive had the 4 since launch day and its the longest i have ever had a phone

Orange at the moment aren't doing any good existing customer / loyalty deals. They still want £109 for the handset on a £36pm, 24m tarrif :(

The only "loyalty" deal I get for being a customer of 12 years is a free 'magic' number on the tarrif (as long as its another Orange customer). Whoopie.

The missus has been waiting a few month for the 5's release (she has my old 3GS atm) and I've to to say what a let down the 5 is. There's not that much been changed over a 4s that would make it a worth while choice.

Going to give it a week or 2 and see what the contracts for the 4s vs 5 are and might just end up with a free 4s over the expensive 5.

Ordered mine on Friday. Not sure where I'll be getting the nanoSim from as yet.

Just cut it down, it doesn't seem difficult. There are a few tutorials on line already.

You can't, it's a different chip/thickness

As an O2 business customer, I lease my iPhone 4s. The current lease is up in May, so unless anything amazing comes out between now and then, I will be upgrading to the 5. Personally I really like the user interface on the iPhone, do I'd prefer to stick to what I know and like.

It is not a different chip the chip is identical to 3FF (microsim) as the chip has to be backward compatible with an adapter, and the difference in thickness is 1/10 of 1mm (the same thickness as a human hair).

There are a number of posts around the internet where people have cut a microsim down successfully (and thinned it far past the new thickness).

Microsim was 0.8mm thick, nanosim is 0.67mm thick and the standard allows 10% tolerance, so a microsim could actually be 0.72mm and a nanosim could be 0.73mm and still be in spec. Sanding the width of a human hair should be within anyones skill with a piece of fine sandpaper.

Its a profit raising scare story, and you can bet that nanosims will only be issued on special tariffs for the immediate future.

Unfortunately a lot of internet users are just repeating the false info over and over which eventually gives it false credence.

The max thickness of a nanoSim is NOT 0.73mm - but 0.70mm.

It'll be far easier to wait for a nanoSim, and they will be available, than trying to sandpaper off about .15mm without trashing it.

I won't be getting one, I don't like the larger screen. I seem to be one of the only people around that wants a smaller phone rather than a bigger one and my 4S is the perfect size for my needs. I'll stick with it for another year and see what the next model brings. I want to stay with iOS, but if 4" or upwards screens is the way forward I'll be forced to look elsewhere.

The general tolerance is 10%.

There is a pretty good chance the networks will demand a (more expensive) iPhone tariff if you request a nano sim, anyone on an older sim only deal might not have much choice if they want to use an iPhone 5 and retain their existing price plan.

I really don't see the big issue, there are people on the GiffGaff forum with working nano sim conversions, for all the networks and apple claiming a new sim is required, it is obviously not so.

One of those posters thinned down to 0.60mm and still had a functioning sim.

You generally find you get a good deal if you ask them to cancel your contract at end of term though. The upgrade I was offered last time round was poo, so just went through retentions. When they ask why (which they will) you are cancelling , just tell them their upgrades are too expensive. As if by magic....

Good plan, might do that!

Haven't decided yet. Just sold my iPhone4 before its value dropped too low and may upgrade to the 5 when my contract is up for renewal in march. Currently using an ascend g300 on gingerbread and have to say I'm missing iOS.

Why sell the iPhone 4 and degrade to a worse handset? Doesn't seem to make sense!
