Iphone 4 update

Apple maps is nowhere near as good as google maps. The turn by turn navigation works fine though, but I don't think that's available for the iPhone 4. You also won't get panorama mode in the camera app, nor FaceTime nor Siri. Time to update the phone not the software!

I don't think there is anything really wrong with apple maps now, they just don't seem to have as many business locations - i.e. if you search for a pub or garage you don't get as many results as google maps. If you have the postcode though (which I normally do) life is no worse than it used to be but you have the addition of the sat nav-style malarkey

I'll remember that when I'm in Australia.. :D

But isn't that like the island that google had listed but didn't exist. Moral of this story, all sat navs are a guide and shouldn't be followed blindly without also checking signs as that's asking for trouble.

We could also talk about how far out google are if you compare with an OS map too :)

Why? Just don't use iOS maps and install google or any other mapping system you want. It's a bit silly avoiding a better OS just because of the bundled map.

I don't see why? It depends on what you use the device for, doesnt it?

I use my iPad & phone for mail, browsing, very very rare photo editing, navigation and, oh, the odd phone call. Both of the devices are still OS 4.x, because it works- as simple as that.

I have neither the time or inclination to update the OS when Apple have repeatedly proved how bug ridden their upgrade path is. If it works, don't fix it! :)

How does an iPad work for navigation? Would block a sizeable part of the windscreen surely?

It depends on a) where you have it, and, b) what you are navigating. Not everything revolves around driving!

Never updated mine.

Cheeky sod............:D

I don't know what the fuss is with Apple maps. It works brilliantly as a mapping app. The only people who are upset with it are kids who like to play with overhead imagery - whilst naively thinking they are looking at satellite imagery.

For sure, but iOS 6 is still quicker and has quite a few nifty little features you would no doubt you would find useful.

Call me a kid then. I use it frequently for planning shoots.

Agreed, but the time v pay-off equation doesnt really add up for me! :)

Seriously? Use a brain cell!

No need to get insulting. It is a genuine question. You imply it's not for use in a vehicle. Does that mean you go trekking or something with your iPad out in front of you. It is a genuine question because I am intrigued how someone used an iPad for navigation.
