iPhone 4 or HTC Sensation ?

OP once you look at the screen on the S2 you will walk out the shop with it. I actually have stop myself from looking at my work mate's S2 because it completely ruins my otherwise very positive feelings towards the screen on my Atrix

The screen looks lovely on the S2, then you pick it up and go 'ughhhh... cheap!!' but its a phone, not like you use it for anything critical, I don't need a calibrated screen on my phone in all honesty, I need it to be nice and clear to play contract killer and navigate music for which the HTC is fine. Battery life is reasonable, it will do 3 days if I don't rape the battery playing games, I can flatten it in a morning if I try. Memory is woeful but just stick a decent size TF card in, its not as fast but it does ok. I've not had any issues with signal and wifi, ok it has crashed a few times but show me a smartphone that is truly stable. I just found the S2 to feel a bit naff compared to the HTC, not technically just from a touchy feely perspective. Go try the two and see what you think. mobiles.co.uk is the net spin-off of carphone warehouse and they were the best on price when i got mine.
 
just because it nice and light doesnt mean its cheaply built, to me sometimes things that are light are harder to brake if dropped, where as if its heavier it hits the floor harder, have dropped my s2 a few times with no probs what so ever.
And also i have seen iphones cases broken and motorolas keyboards broken.
let us know what you decide on mal, and a galaxy would go with your user names says it all.
 
Visited Carphone Warehouse for a touchy feely looky experience and finally made my mind up here:D

Used to work in Mobile Phone sales, and a bit of a phone geek and have owned iphones and htc's so here goes -

HTC Sensation (I own this phone now), battery life is as good as any phone out there if you manage it correctly.

Iphone 3gs actually had worse battery life for me. Iphones are very simple and easy to use which is why most people like them, but it lacks customisation.

HTC and Android phones are easy to use, can customize it endlessley, if you get bored theres a whole community of custom ROMS, hacks and mods to make your phone even better.

Also the Iphone is wayyyy overpriced for what it is. Personally I cant stand them.

Sensation Vs Galaxy S2.

Similiar handsets but the S2 feels cheap and Id be scared of breaking it. I was torn between Sensation and the S2, but the build quality of the HTC sold it for me

I dont regret my decision at all. Upgrded from a HTC Desire (which was the best phone Id had, until now)

I to have a desire however my internal memory is sitting at just under 800mb.
What's my secret - rooted and custom ROM (star burst) from starters which supports data2SD, meaning all app data gets written to the SD card.
The quirky bit though is the fancy piece of scripting which allows the OS to think that a partitioned part of the SD card (ext4) is infact on board storage.

Furthermore rooting has yielded the ability to overclock the CPU by 20% and underclock it by about 80% using CPU profiles which is great for battery life.
Now I can go a full 2 days of solid use before charging.and don't have to worry about running out of internal memory.

Oh and on quadrant benchmarking I now score just under 2500, 5 times quicker than a stock desire.

Thanks Luke that takes away any doubts I may have had over the final decision :thumbs:
Now I just need to suss out the best spare battery out there as I have always carried a spare around with me.

No worries. Obviously the desire is old school now compared to the newer android phones, but thanks to android as a whole and a bit of tinkering it ain't that shabby.
 
Love my S2, actually using it now to type this. As for the feeling that it will break easily due to quality ive accidently stood on my S2 while.it was charging and not a mark on it. Its been thrown about my car when it slipped out my pocket todag too :lol: the phone is extremely light and thin. The screen really is great. The phone itself is very fast and by far the best phone ive ever had.

But i suppose its all down to preference and what you like :)

Im keeping my eye on this HERE

Any larger batteries will require a special back cover so just try and get a normal one and keep it charged :)
 
I'm stuck deciding between the S2 and possible Iphone5. I'll be using my phone with eye fi cards for wiring quick jobs. Not sure if android has the app's for editing/resizing before ftp'ing like the iphone does.
 
Have the phone in my hands now and just love it, it is a lot faster compared to the HTC hero:)

I did Stuart and have not put it down since, but suspect I have wasted my time loading it up as my son is going to do something to it tomorrow to unlock it to any network, they want £25 around here to unlock it:eek:

He is going to "flash" it :shrug:

Flashing it sounds like he may root it and put a custom ROM on for you.
If that is the case it will give you more user control over the phone that the standard OS doesn't allow.
 
a root and custom ROM in itself will not remove the SIM lock, it will still be locked to a carrier even with something like Cyanogen. Jus' sayin'

edit: had a quick browse on Xda developers, there is no way to unlock the phone other than getting an unlock code it seems, i.e. paying the £25. Ordinarily you could speak to the network it is locked to but I assume you aren't a customer of them so they won't entertain your request.
Flashing a custom ROM will not remove the sim lock, the only phone I know of in recent times that couldbe unlocked with a free code generator is the Orange San Francisco

£25 for unlocking..no way! seems as if they charge scaled on what you are likely to have paid for the phone, but if the locked O2 network proves ok for the area I am living in I may not have to have it unlocked.

how? SIM locks are removed only by using a PIN number that you have to enter once you put another carriers SIM card in (it will prompt). This PIN number is based on your IMEI number and put through a generator whose algorithm is encrypted, companies that charge £25 to unlock the phone have either bought something from the network in question or they put in a request to the carrier on your behalf.

It's possible he is confused with unlocking the bootloader that will enable flashing of ROM's only since the bootloader on the Sensation is locked but can be unlocked with adb
 
Unlocking the phone to all networks is something that can only be done by the carrier or one of these specialist shops you find in your area.

It sounds like your son is going to flash it for a new Rom whether its open or locked to a network.

I wouldn't get a s2. I have one at work and it's flimsy and the ui is a carbon copy of iPhone which I hate. Also samsung are getting. Sued by apple for it

Do a google search about s2. I think it's even getting banned in holland ue to copyright issues. The ui is a carbon copy of iPhone unless u rooted yours. I know what I'm talking about because I am a android developer developing for the s2
 
To be fair, aren't Samsung counter- suing apple in certain regions of the world with regards to iphone technology????
 
For apple to sue samsung over their UI is a bit weird.

I though the UI was the by product of Android.
Therefore should the law suit should not be against google and not samsung??? Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree.
Furthermore isn't this a law suit that became transparent back in April? This is now the beginning of September.

The latest law suit is between the ipad and the galaxy tab and we all have our thoughts on that one! :D

My son called round earlier tonight to collect my phone which was locked to O2 he has only moments ago rang my old mobile using his orange sim card in my now unlocked Sensation :woot::banana:

Now who was it said it could not be done:D

We have a good arrangement my son and I, he sorts out any techie pc problems I can not fix and in return I have been landscaping his garden front back and side converting it to nil/low maintenance:)

Timmy he did neither it was all done via his pc tonight;)

Had an iphone 3G when they first came out, "upgraded" to a HTC desire when they came out, hated it, piece of **** in my opinion, gone back to an iphone now, and having a play with a colleague's new sensation today confirmed it for me. I really don't like anything about the HTCs, I prefer the iphone in every way.

Apple stuff just works, simple as

but seriously though, correct, apple stuff does just work with little user input, but android is more customisable, more open etc.
