At present I have an HTC HERO on PAYG , just can't make my mind up on which phone to upgrade to on contract

After buying an iPod Touch 32gb I was all for getting an iPhone 4 but now I am leaning towards the sensation.

Pro's and con's please to help me make up my mind:)

I would wait a month or so, iPhone 5 is rumoured to be out in September.

I really liked my old htc phones however now use iPhones, mainly due to having a MBP and an iPad.

Guess it depends on what you want to use it for other than a phone?

I wouldn't hold your breath on iPhone 5 being released in September.

I have a HTC desire hd and I love it that much I sold my iPhone to get it.

I'm addicted to my iPhone it's brilliant! Mine is a 32gb 3GS and I love it, I have hammered it for over a year and still love it!!

How did you love it that much when you didn't have it?

The iPhone 5 will be out very soon, so just saying I would wait another month (prob will be sept)

Don't want to start another I love / hate the iPhone argument, with ios5 on it's way it will continue to be the biggest selling phone on the Market. you never hear anyone who has an iPhone saying they wish they got a HTC.

As far as Internet I enjoy using my iPhone, but then I like safari lol

You don't get flash websites on the iPhone...

TBH all thats going to happen is both sets of fanboys are going to debate for the next 30 or so posts and your'e still not going to have an answer at the end of it.

Having said that I'm in love with my iPhone and did consider swaping to htc when it was time to upgrade, but I didn't see the point in learning a new system and searching for new apps to replace the apps I'd already paid for in the past.

My Mrs and best mate both had the desire hd!

I have the sensation, does everything I need and feels nice and solid.

I had a similar conundrum recently, my existing phone was a HTC Hero like yourself. I've never been a fan of apple and think android is a better platform, but i considered the iphone.

I ruled out the iphone because I didn't want old technology (iphone4) and couldn't wait an undetermined time for the 5, which depending to which rumours you believe may not be much different to the 4.

In the end i was torn between the new dual core Android 2.3 phones; the HTC sensation and Samsung Galaxy S2. I thought I'd go for the HTC as I am a fan of Sense UI. I eventually went for the Samsung, it has an AMOLED screen and Benchmarks significantly faster than the Sensation on most things. I don't miss Sense UI and you can download other UI/launcher programs to customise to your preferences, I've gone with launcher pro.

I think it is the Mutt's nuts. It's a fantastic smartphone, I definitely made the right choice. hardware wise it's much better than the iphone. I prefer Android to iOS, but realise this is a personal thing. On wifi it is quicker at web browsing than my fairly well specced laptop!

I can't recommend the Samsung highly enough, but TBH I doubt you'd be disappointed with any of these 3.

I have a HTC Desire and my girlfriend has the Sensation and I can't praise either enough. Sense UI is brilliant, little touches like being able to turn over the phone to silence it really make it work well.

I love the widgets you get with Android and feel this is one area the iPhone has now been left behind. With the widgets I can open one screen on my phone and check the status of the tube, how long it is until the next train, the weather and the time. It's such a nice experience to use it. The only advantage iPhone has over the Android system is the music player apps aren't quite as good as iTunes, but that's a small price to play.

i have had both htc sensation (current phone ) and iphone 4

iphone pro's

more apps than htc have
some apps are only available on iphone like natwest (annoys me lol )
it doesnt crash like the htc can do seems to be a bit prone to it

iphone cons
you have to pay for most apps - agry birds on iphone is 69p i think on htc it is free
you cant just download music like on the htc and transfer them
video and pictures are poor to the camera on the htc
doenst have bluetooth - well it does but only for connecting devices up ie car kits etc

me personally i would conact a local shop and find out when iphone 5 is out as i belive it is still a romur if it is next year go with iphone 4

i will be going back to iphone's with no question

htc pros
you can download alot of apps free that would cost you on iphone
the camera is alot better quality
has a nice big screen
screen is better quality then the iphone
i downloaded a app called g-tunes and basically you can download free music and transfer them between phones with bluetooth free
runs very quick ie processort is spot on

htc cons
can crash but very easy to reset - iphone can crash too but not as frequent as the htc has with me , but yet brother in law and his girlfriend never had that problem so must get the unlucky phones lol

i will add more as i think of them

Thanks for all the advice:thumbs:.............I like the sensation but all this talk about poor battery life is putting me off.

Ps. I take ages to make a decision but I have just requested my pack code so hope be sorted during this 30 day battery life.

Galaxy S2 without a doubt. I have been trialing a number of handsets recently at work as replacements for our Hero's and the S2 is the best of the lot by some margin. Battery life is the best on any smartphone on the market, fastest handset, great screen the list goes on.
However they were too expensive so we went for Motorola Atrix's lol but they are very good anyway.

HTC Sensation for me

Have one for sale in the classifieds if interested

My Mrs and best mate both had the desire hd!

Your best mate and your Mrs had the desire  to do .... what? Please do tell ;)

I'm just about to upgrade to a BBerry Bold 9900, its the first time I have been excited about a phone in ages..

I am just in the process of getting rid of my bold after 18 months with it I have to say although a great phone the screen is to small and I am going for an s2 which I cannot wait to get.

Samsung s2 is awesome - i should know as I've got one!! Very quick, superb screen and much cheaper than an iphone on contract!

As some have already mentioned, i'd wait till september/october for the iPhone 5.

I'm bias towards iPhones, and wouldn't have anything else! Its the only phone i've ever had and not been bored! It does everything I need for my business, mobileMe has been superb, but IOS5 will have all this built in for free anyway!

I don't know about the other phone, but i've never looked els ware, as i have mac, and iPad, it all runs perfect together!

If you drop an iPhone4 or drop the HTC on to hard concrete... which is likely to have a cracked screen after the drop?

iphone. But seriously, read the reviews of Galaxy S2 vs Sensation, it will change your mind about the Sensation

Gawd I am so indecisive, I had not considered the Samsung but now I have to a add it the mix  off to read reviews.............

Thanks for the input:)

Ordered the Desire S last night. With a bit of luck it'll be here tomorrow. Free upgrade too. :D

That's like saying "If I go up a snowy lane, which will slide down, a Discovery or a saloon" - a bit pointless IMO

Another thing - the s2 has a fairly decent camera on it too, to the point where I don't think I'll be using my p&s anytime in the near future!!

I've had a desire for a year now and love it . apart from the small internal hard drive which most apps are forced to use ( same as sensation I think) and battery is crap! but I WILL be getting a sensation when I'm up for renewal.... or maybe another market leading android phone.

The Samsung looks and feels like a lump of cheap plastic

As opposed to the HTC Sensation which has an aluminium uni body design

As for the software the only real difference is the Samsung has Touch Whiz and the HTC has Sense

And of course the fact that all of the latest reviews place the s2 as the best smartphone currently on the market......aluminium body or not!!!

I was in the same position until 2 days ago...

Opted for the Sensation as the iPhone 4 is very good, but in terms of performance (and up-to-date-ness :p) the Sensation wins. I considered the Galaxy S2, but mum has it so I can't be seen with the same one

Didn't fancy waiting any longer for the iPhone 5, mainly on the grounds of cost... I've got the Sensation for free by the means of £100 'cashback' on my old crappy handset which places like mazuma would only give me £30 for :D

samsung galaxy s2 anyday of the week look at the reviews against any phone you wont on utube even the ipad it eats. it a 1.2ghz dual core processor that you can tweek to run upto 2ghz but from what i have seen 1.5ghz is the recomended + 1gb ram, the battery life is very good, and the screen is easly the best around, and the camera is very good at 8mp and it does 1080p hd video, also once you play with it you will just go wow all my iphone mates do and my motorola mate does especially when they bench test them and the galaxy eats them.
look at this.

Galaxy benchtests faster than the sensation but in actual use there is VERY little in it (certainly not as much as the numbers would suggest). Mate of mine has the S2, i played with it and it convinced me to buy the sensation. Have a play with both and see which you prefer, tbh I don't think there is a clear winner between the two, I reckon with the build quality of the s2 I would have probably destroyed it within a month.

Ok update :)

I have watched a fairly unbiased review of the 3 of them here

From that review and the full individual reviews I do favour the HTC, battery life concerned me but the Samsung suffers from the same shortfall.
Possibly as I am used to the HTC and it's controls the HTC does have the edge.

So I will be stepping into Carphone Warehouse soon to compare the three of them in the flesh with the HTC uppermost in my mind but will be going direct to Orange as the provider, I can imagine they will try their dammed hardest to sell me one on the spot before I leave:D.

Thanks again for all the replies folks but feel free to add any more thoughts:)

I've never been that into phones, but I upgraded to a Samsung Galaxy s2 last month and I absolutely am blown away with it. I still am amazed at how much stuff they can do. This phone is also extremely light weight but solidly made !!

*LCD vs. SuperAMOLED screen (the S2 screen is just simply amazing)
*less battery life (tech radars verdict: Well, it's going to happen again with the HTC Sensation, as the battery life, to us, seems woeful and not up to scratch. We're talking dead by 8PM with no push email, minimal Wi-Fi and about 30 mins of music and video at the most.)
*grip of death on wifi
*no swype (quite possibly the best invention on smartphone...ever, I have it on my Motorola Atrix and it is just amazing)
*SenseUI gash in comparison to TouchWiz (personal opinion but Sense is trying style over substance but fails)
*less RAM (768MB vs 1GB, unlike the CPU extra RAM really helps on apps, the Atrix has 1GB RAM and I can multitask with loads of apps open)
*vastly less internal storage (1GB vs. 16GB on the S2)

not much to discern between the two eh ;)

OP once you look at the screen on the S2 you will walk out the shop with it. I actually have stop myself from looking at my work mate's S2 because it completely ruins my otherwise very positive feelings towards the screen on my Atrix

Yes I think my mind will be made up in the Carphone Warehouse tomorrow but I can have my phone delivered by Wednesday if ordered on Monday direct from Orange, I would rather not go through a third party..
