Hi,
I have a problem with my iPhone 4 whereby it randomly switches itself off. When I restart it it sometimes (not always) tells me I need to activate it and connect to iTunes. A reboot normally sorts this out. It also refuses to charge on many occasions.
None of the problems seem to follow any pattern and are very frustrating. Anybody else had this issue?

Nothing like that with mine, is it worth a complete reset and start again?

I suggest taking it back to your nearest apple outlet...sounds like a software issue which may require a new handset providing its still within its warranty period.

I have had several phones replaced over the years for various software issues.

Hi Gramps, tried that too. Still the same result.

Not sure how long the warranty is? It's due for an upgrade in a couple of months so it's probably 18 months old.

I'm sure it's 12 months... They can tell when the handset was 1st activated due to the code on the back of the handset being unique.

Certainly worth asking the question though?

And certainly worth hanging till the new iPhone 5 is due before upgrading/changing contract.

Thanks mate,
I thought it would be 12 months. Might try and pop into an Apple store and see if they know what the issue is. Definitely will wait for the 5 to come out before upgrading though

they will tell you to do a 'hard reset' and NOT to restore it - eg start over -its worth doing , if not they will then replace it (they wont unless you have tried this )

Hi Tom,
Does that mean writing down all my numbers and manually inputting them again? Assume manually add my apps back on as well?

Back it up on iCloud/iTunes and all your contacts should be saved, is your phone all updated etc ?

Yep all backed up. Not sure about the iCloud backup though.

sync your contacts with google or something - then just do a proper hard reset (google it) it gives full new software , i had an issue with my home button 'not working' i was told to do a proper 'reset' and not a 'restore' and it did sort the issue :)

Thanks Thomas,
Reset complete. All seems ok for now! Will keep my fingers crossed. Only problem is I seem to have lost a lot of photos :( Will have to check iCloud again tonight.
