iPhone 4 and 4S real world differences?

Depends on what you want to use the phone for. I have a 4 and can't see what significant advantage the 4s has over the 4. Might be faster if you use it for games. I'm going to wait for the iPhone 5, which is rumored to be out latter this year.
 
I've just recently purchased an iphone 4s. Was looking at the iphone 4 and having the same debate as you're having now. I decided to opt for the 4s, as the cost wasn't that much off a different, so thought it sensible to go for the phone with the better optics, processor, etc.

Also thought about waiting for the iphone 5, but there will always be the next great phone coming out, so decided to buy and enjoy now. Also, if the iphone 5 is much better, the price of the iphone 4s will hold pretty well, so less pain when upgrading.
 
You're on a foto forum, so I assume you like taking fotos. As we say here the camera in the 4S is "brutal". Considering it's a mobile phone I think it's awesome. Worth the extra for that alone.
 
i have recently gone from a 4 to a 4s.

If I didn't have a phone then i would have bought the 4s over the 4. But upgrading from a 4 to a 4s has been pretty pointless really.

I buy my phones outright so I spent £500 on my phone and for it I got a better camera and siri. That's it really. The camera and siri were not worth the £500 I paid.

It is meant to be faster, but i don't notice it at all. Im sure if you play intensive games you might but i don't so i don't notice it.

but for £70 difference to get 16gb instead of 8gb and a better camera and siri - yes it is worth it.
 
Never played with the 4s, as I am a Yorkshireman,so went for the cheaper option for the wife 2 months back. I always said I would never have an iPhone, but after playing with hers I have just taken delivery of my own iPhone 4. If you are changing from android I think you will find the 4 is more than up to the job. So get the 4 and wait for the 5, as they should have all the bugs sorted on the 5 by the time your contract is up for renewal lol

What bugs are you finding?
 
If you are not into games I would not bother with the 4s. Cannot tell the difference since I upgraded and Siri has been disabled from day 1.

I find the 4s has better signal than the 4 as they redesigned the antenna, and it has a faster processor so worth the £150 upgrade cost (£500 for 4s less £350 for sale of 4).
 
i havent found any "bugs" with the 4s, also ive been pleasantly surprised regarding the battery life too after a lot of people whinge about it. mines just going flat now and i last charged it friday.
 
The only 2 major differences as stated is the camera and Siri, if your not going to use these apps, no need to pay more.
 
I have not really found any problems with the camera ( is a bonus not a must have) and the Siri I don't have it do not missed it lol
The main thing is how much smother it is than my android phone
My other half also has an ipad2 and we are thinking about replacing her laptop with a mac as she Is at uni doing media degree.
 
I had an iPhone 3GS running iOS 5 but just before Xmas I purchased an iPhone 4s and I think it's a really good phone. The main difference for me was the camera and speed of the device. Siri is a novelty and doesn't really work as well as apple made you belive in the ads. It's worth getting for the camera because not only does it take good photos, the hd recording is a must.

That said, if I were you I'd get the 4s over the 4 because when apple release new updates like iOS 6 you will probably need the dual core proccessor to power it. I think the iPhone 3GS will be left out of the new update because it will be lacking power so the same will eventually happen to the 4, like it did the iPhone 3G. That couldn't support multi tasking ect.. As most contracts are 2 years now you need to future proof the device so it's as good as it can be for those 2 years.

Also, after much looking for my iPhone 4s I found there wasn't much price difference between getting a 4 or 4s. I got mine from dialaphone free on £36 a month with orange

I recently got a 4S from a 4 - total waste of time.

I've disabled Siri as I wasn't using it and the difference between 1080p and 720p video really isn't worth the extra.

You can get a really good condition iPhone 4 for under £300 - don't bother with the 4S.

Do you see a difference in the photos or not?
 
Yes, the camera is certainly better on the 4S, but not £200 better.
 
I'm not sure where this "£200" price difference came from. There is a £70 difference between a 8gb iphone4 and a 16gb iphone 4s so probably half of that difference is accounted for by the extra 8gb memory so in real terms we are only looking at a £35 like for like difference.

The things that swing it for me are:
1) better speed (2 core vs single core)
2) better reception (antenna "bug" fixed)
3) better battery life

The other things like siri, hd video etc are not really things I would ever use so would not be a reason alone to buy the newer phone.

Some of us are not so blinkered or self-restrictive, i.e. we have a DSLR and an iPhone 4S for taking photos.
 
Ive had both and how ever much i tell myself everyday that my 4s is better than my 4 its not lol! and as for siri i used it everyday for the first 2days now i never use it, so much faster to write a text out :)
 
If your going to buy one on a contract then you buy the best you can. The iPhone 4s should be anyone's choice who doesnt own an iPhone at all. If you own a 4 then it's not worth an upgrade. You can get the 4s free on a contract if you look.
 
Just replaced my 4 for a 4s.

No real difference apart from the Camera and Siri.

But im Loving it.

The point I was trying to make was its a phone first and for snap shots I would think the camera on the 4 is more than up to the job.
Also most of my photography is short oval motorsport so I don't think the camera on the 4s would be any better than the one on the 4 for me

I have also just looked at the price difference again, I paid £99 for the 8gb iPhone 4 on a £21 contract and the 16gb iPhone 4s would have cost me £249 on the same contract so like I said the 4 is more than good enough for a smart phone

Again I would say, that for anyone that wants to be more creative than just to do "snap shots" (how derogatory does that sound?), then the iPhone 4S is very valid as a camera.

The talent in photography comes from who is behind the camera (whether it be a mobile phone, a cheap compact or the most expensive camera in the world), their vision and how they capture that vision.
 
^ And when you have mastered that, a good camera helps.

So you're saying a lot of my photography consists of "snap shots"? What does that mean? Devoid of quality or artistic merit? It sounds pejorative to me.
 
My last phone was a 3gs and due to the problems with the 4, especially regarding signal i skipped that generation. I got the 4s on release and love it to bits. Siri is a novelty but has got potential. Personally i would get the 4s, and skip the 4 & 5 at least initially to see if it has any design flaws. Get on the second half of the 2 year cycle.

Not saying that at all, but I only really use the camera on my phone for a here and now type pic. If you use your camera for more than that I do apologise and I did not mean to upset anyone :-)

Then we are still friends :) My D7000 is technically far superior to my mobile phone, yet I use the two in the same way; to translate what I see in my mind and create a digital image. So to me, the mobile phone is equally as important to me as the Nikon because it allows me to do what I want to do (ie photography) when I want to.
