Yes
Now £329 for the wifi 16gb.

No doubt they may get cheaper still before the new version ships. But still a good deal.

I think the apple store has Quidco too?

Wow, great deal. Thats the first time I've ever known Apple reduce the price of their products :)

Wow dropped by £100 already! People who didn't know are not going to be happy!

A few forums are suggesting that this is the new pricing that the v1 will sit at. I've no need for faster speeds or two cameras so v2 of little interest to me :)
Tempted to get one for the bedroom, already have one that sits in the lounge :D

Which Im waiting for, A mk1 version for £250 ish. Problem is there are many others willing to buy at that too and with such a hit to the sellers at that price I dont think we will see many in the classifieds just yet.

However, £329 for brand new is great price and I shall be buying my daughter one as her communication aid

Travel to the States and the starting price for the iPad2 is ~£310 ($499)!!!!

Refurb 16GB wifi models are now only £289 from the apple store (online)
Full 1 year warranty :)

Lots of deals popping up all over the place today. Target price with Quidco now around £307!

Down we go.......

Code 5300 for 5% off. Plus 2.5% Quidco.

£304.75

Refundable upon departure for visitors in many States.

I never do this as I can't help but feel if you file and claim it back at one end, you're basically telling them what you're bringing in and leaving it wide open to be charged import/vat when you land back over here. I'm happy enough taking the 5-6% hit and relishing in what was probably more than a 20% saving in the first instance :)

:cuckoo: Strange logic!

You are entitled to carry goods to the value of £390 into the UK from countries outside the EU duty-free.

I didn't know about that limit but is it really that strange?

In my instance, I was bringing a £900ish MacBook (with a uk value of about £1300) back with me so didn't feel it worth risking asking for £45 back then possibly having to pay up £160 in England.

IMHO, on two counts....yes!

Firstly in the context of this thread, with iPads available in the US at well under the £390 duty-free allowance threshold, and secondly, just because you pay duty in the US and decide not to reclaim this it doesn't give you any sort of immunity from paying duty for the item(s) when you arrive in the UK. In your example, legally you should have paid the £160 duty on arrival back in the UK.

Why not just steal it and get the full £900 discount? It's just as legal.

And don't try throwing excuses about how everybody does it etc., etc. Walking through the 'Nothing to declare' channel is a crime - one that probably carries higher penalties than stealing from a shop. Just be honest and admit that you're a criminal.

I was tempted to buy a refurb 16gb iPad from Apple yesterday for only £289 but have decided to await the iPad 2.

All the talk of sales tax in the US and VAT being applied here when you land etc etc...

You need to add the cost of the trip in the 1st place - so unless you're already going, it's not worth it anyway!

I certainly wasn't suggesting anything of the sort!

But if you, or someone kind that you know, is going, it's not a daft option!

Im tempted to get a ipad 2 but i will wait a while for the prices to settle down.

Some great SH bargains on ebay at the moment ... I'm waiting for the right mark one 64Gb 3G Wifi model and expect it to drop to around £300-325 over next month as the early adopters start salivating even more over a mark two. At the moment seem to be £350 average and a bit more with extra's, AppleCare, whatever.

Apparently apple are bringing out a budget version of either iphone or ipad or both

Pity they are out of stock :(

Thanks for the tip - quite tempted now - dumb question, can you connect a USB hard drive and use as a portable backup device on site? I had a feeling not?

Ah, import duty evasion - the acceptable middle class face of fraud, seemingly. :|

You can hook up to a toaster ... it just won't work and the iPad will blow up!

Makro have the 16gb wifi iPad for £250+vat.

I bought one at @£400 a few months after release. TBH, I would pay the same for one again I've had that much use out of it. Definitely worth every penny at £300 or less. As a convenient web browsing tool while lounging in front of the telly it takes some beating. My 2 year old loves it also- it's amazing how quickly he's taken to it.
