Ipad3 event (New Apple stuff)

Utter nonsense... why would anyone want an outward facing camera on the iPad? If you wanted to improve the camera do it on the one that matters, the one used for facetime meetings, web conferences, and video blog recording..

I saw someone at Hyde park using one as a camera!!!

Same price as Ipad 2, in USA at least.

$499 for 16gb...prices are same then

March 16 roll out.

dont want to make new thread, but does Apple TV play mkv and all other sort of video files ?

No HMDI or SD card reader then, lol. Not that I ever expected them.

It's official, new iPad 3 with retina display.

Added * 2048 x 1536...

I just don't get the point of it, the 24" screen I'm typing at is lower res than that

and it doesn't look blocky

I can always notice the difference in screen quality, hold most phones next to the iPhone 4 and you'll see it.

Gonna stick with my ipad2 does everything I want and more so no need to upgrade.

I will still be interested in what extra it offers, funny how retina recognition is being scrapped at airports as a waste of time. Why would you need it on an iPad ?

Retina is the code name for their high resolution screens. Nothing to do with rentina scanners Chris.

Seriously, I never thought that will happen, it will ruin the form of the product and need a redesign.

There is already a SD card reader, you buy it separately. Why do you need a HDMI port anyway? What good does that do? The product is design for you to watch things on it, not stream it to something else.

The Retina display is most welcome though but nothing on it that is unexpected to be honest.

With the new apple tv you can stream 1080p video, so even less use for a HDMI port.

Not enough change to make me change my 64gb ipad2.

Funny, because the Asus Transformer manages to fit in a mini HDMI connector and micro SD card reader and I'd hardly call that cluncky. These could easily be incorporatedinto the existing form factor.

As the iPad is used with iTunes for movie downloads it seems logical that whilst in the home people would rather watch on a larger screen so movies could be watched in groups.

I know they have several attachments for various connectors but carrying a bag full of connectors seems out of sync with the whole idea of what iPad is, small, portable....

I was talking more about the way it feel in your hand, adding ports there and there it changes the way the product feel in your hand. Right now if you basically connect the headphones at the top and the rest of the product you are free to hold, hence the bezel all round it.

I have the SD card adaptor since launch for my iPad almost 2 years ago, it's not even left the packaging !

That's what AirPlay is for. No cables or ports. Why would you want a cable that ties you to the tv, when you can wirelessly stream it to your tv AND control it with the iPad at the same time.

So here is are the updates

Improved “retina” display. Better than hd tv

A5X chip with quad-core graphics capacity.

5 megapixel camera

Supports 1080p video recording.

Voice dictation feature.

4g support

Pretty, pretty good, all for the same price as ipad2. I'm glad I didn't upgrade to the 2 and can now go from an ipad1 straight to a 3 with all these features being a serious upgrade for me. Those with iPad2s already probably won't be getting that much of an update.

Great if you're house is filled with Apple tech. Not so good for people who choose not to waste their money on AppleTV.

Lots of stuff have Airplay built in now.

And it is their way to get you buy more Apple stuff and at £99 it is hardly expensive, I have UV filters that cost that much!

I much prefer to use Airplay than put the iPad tied to the TV.

:cuckoo:

You'd rather drop £15 on a cable than £99 on a 1080p streaming device? For what you get with appletv £99 is an absolute bargain. Hell it's worth it not to have to use a cable, plus all the wireless screen mirroring, gaming possibilities, streaming music, renting movies, Netflix.

Cables = old PC era from 20th century lol

Things have been moving towards wireless for years now, that is the whole point of the iPad.

Wireless.

The whole Apple product line are moving away from cables/physical media.

Apple Air and its lack of Optical drive
iMac can run with just 1 power cable out of the box
etc etc

I welcome the lack of these ports, it's not what the iPad is about, they well plenty without it and there is no reason for them to change this.

remember guys that over wifi you wont be able to stream big video files...

No, I'd use the cable I already own (as do most people with a modern TV).

I have no need to add yet another layer of tech to my life just so I can watch movies I've purchased on iTunes with friends in the house.

Let's look at it from a different perspective. I do a lot of conference talks and I want to use the iPad for Keynote presentations on the projector or large screen tv, I can assure you the conference venue won't have AppleTV. So now I have to carry the adaptor with me.

It's hardly the end of the world I admit but then it wouldn't have been a big deal for Apple to add it to the device, realising that most of their customers are normal everyday people not fanboys with just about every device they've ever sold in their house.

have you tried to stream 30gb files ?

have you tried to stream 30gb files ?

:suspect:

Give me a 30gb file and I'll try it. The largest video file I own is 6gb it streamed no problem.

What are you trying to stream? Godfather1,2 and 3 and the directors cut of dances with wolves all put together into one file?

You'll be surprised.

They are going to start appearing more and more because of AirPlay and wireless mirroring and the low price point. I work in education and they are now appearing more and more in classrooms hooked up to smart boards or large hd displays.

download bluray rip of extended edition of lord of the rings...each part is around 28-30gb :)

ones around 6 like you said and up to 10 or so are fine...

I can stream a 12G file no problem, original is 1080 with DTS sound and all.

how do you know? Have you tried streaming a 30gb video to an appleTV?

I think you are just making these numbers up as you go along

So, can this play 1080p files at 1080p?

How fast is the processor?

Apple marketing confuses me, like before it says that it has a quad core graphics processor. So is that quad core just for graphics?

Who's gonna get one? iPhoto looks very appealing

Spec's are HERE
