Hello, been looking at Ipad2s.

It would seem that Apple don't want to allow you to connect peripherals to the pad, and so don't sell any female usb cables to allow flash drives / keyboards etc to it.

Can anyone tell me why as it hugely annoying? Is there any 3rd party manufacturer out there who does this instead? (my googles are turning up trumps!!) :(

Jailbreak and there is apps that use camera connection kit for sd card/usb for mass storage etc as per iPad.

Lots of cases etc that have keyboard that use connector. - don't bluetooth keyboards also work. (have original iPad but not bluetooth keyboard)

ah ok! gotta jailbreak! :(

Thanks

You can connect various memory cards, memory sticks, cameras and USB drives with the Camera Connection Kit, without jailbreaking. From those you can import photos / videos onto the iPad. You also used to be able to connect USB keyboards, though not sure if that is still supported (I've never wanted to do so, so never tried).

But if you want to do anything else with USB peripherals then you will need to jailbreak / get something more appropriate to what you want to do.

The camera connection kit failed to work with a lot of peripherals ( including USB card readers ) when Apple dropped the voltage to the external ports. ( real bummer that). I think it was around iOS 4.1 You can still read SD cards with the camera connection kit but if you want to download from a compact flash card you've got to connect the directly to the CCK.The camera then supplies the power, but it does take a lot longer.

( I managed to get a USB card reader to work, but it involves connecting it via a powered hub. It's a bit of a bind carrying a small hub and a power source with you, so in the end I gave up on the idea. maybe we'll get a USB port on the iPad 3 :naughty: )

Keyboard, the only one I kow that you can use with an iPad is the Apple wireless one.
