My wife has a version 4 iPad and the software can’t be updated past IOS 10.3.3
Am I correct in assuming that it won’t be as secure as the latest iPad Air ?
We are going to get her a new iPad I’m considering the iPad Pro for her as well as the iPad Air
Not necessarily. Sometimes newer updated iOS (as well as MacOS, Windows, application software, apps, browsers, etc.,) will have a few bugs, and hackers found out about it, then took advantage of it. That's when the software company have to improve it, and add next numbers to the version number. Why not 1 then 2 then 3...? Why is it always 1.0 then 1.1 then 1.1.1, 1.1.2, 1.2, 1.3, 2.0, 2.1, 2.1.1, 2.1.2, and so on...?
That's because they always release a new software and it got a few (
amen "full of") bugs, so they have to improve it, and release the update.
You can try to aim for a new iPad, the Pro and/or the Air, but
never assume just because your new one comes out of the box with the latest software, it is more secure when you switch it on the first time.
Always treat
all software as if they can
never be secure, no matter how recently updated.
I'm not suggesting you should worry all the time, just enjoy the new iPad as long as you be mindful of what you input into the iPad.
