Considering getting an iPad (as there is no date for the Surface yet) question is how big, why would I need 64Gb over 16GB or do I just go halfway at 32GB

Another vote for the 32gb version here, should be plenty big enough for most users.

Thanks chaps.

Now seen Surface may be out in October so I'll wait, but still useful info knowing 32gb will be fine.

Today I looked at a Samsung tablet and the iPad at the same time, boy was the ipad so much more responsive to my clumsy fingers, the difference was much much great than I'd expected.

Remember you will always want bigger
Same with lenses and MP you always want more than you have

64 here, movies and images scaled for the native screen size soon fill it up :D

64 is too small. Stick a couple of movies on there and it soon starts to disappear.

64 here as well. Already munched well into that with the odd film, a bit of music, photos and apps.

32 here, perfectly doable with several videos (let's face it 1080 encoded video isnt really worth it on such a small screen, 720 will do ~4gb each), 7-8 albums, books, photos, games etc

64 here down to 33 and that's just music and a few photos.

Remember that 64Gb is only 57.2 Gb available on iPad.......

.....mind you, it isn't easy to get any stuff on an iPad, so you may not fill it anyway!

Is there any way to use an external usb drive or stick with a jailbroken iPad?

Thinking particularly for video.

dont think so or at least can be very hit and miss, Apple reduced the power the connector puts out so cant drive a lot of USB drive.

The buggers!

Can you browse disks connected to airport extreme router?

Apple's thinking is that you don't need a lot of memory as you can store all your music, videos, etc. in the cloud. I guess that's probably easier to do in San Francisco than it is in Huddersfield.
