Hi Guys,

I've never used any apple products at all and i'm just about to buy an ipad which will be used by me and my wife for general browsing and for games and learning for my 4 year old son. Now the question is what size memory should i buy as i've only ever used 500gb laptops and the like and 16gb seems miniscule but is it when there will be no photos stored on it? How much space does kids games take up or say a few 1 hour kids movies if we go on holiday?

Lastly does anyone know where's a decent place to buy these as i've seen the 1 for £259 (curry's) and the 2 for £360 i think it was.

Thanks.

I would avoid the 16Gb. Remember that 16Gb is not all useable as the OS takes up some of that space. I would definitely go for the 64Gb.

The Air 2 is a bit lighter and thinner and has more RAM. You also have finger print login and can run two apps in a split screen which you can not do on the Air 1
If these aren't an issue for you, then the Air 1 is perfectly adequate.

Do you get a 64 air 1? I thought it was only 16 and 32. I'll have a look. Thanks

Hi Scott

Daughter has a 16GB iPad and it works a treat and she has loads of games on it.

I would look at what do you think you'll store on it - if you're going to put music on it and some films, then obviously the larger capacity iPad Air would be a better bet, but does carry a cost and if you're not going to use the extra capacity then it's an expense...

For your 4 year, i think I would be tempted to buy the 16GB iPad Air mark 1 - working on the basis I wouldn't be 'as' worried if it gets dropped, bashed, crayon on, spilt on, eaten, flushed down the toilet, etc :D as if it was the more expensive mark 2...

Thanks mate. There will be no photos or music on it just learning apps and games. I suppose it would be handy to stick some cartoons or kids movies on it when we go abroad but for the main it'll be all browsing and learning.

The movies are what worries me though. Not sure how many films or hours of cartoons you'd get on a 16. I'll check it out.

The 16 series 1 is 249 at argos now. The 32 is ten pounds more than currys so it'll depend what I go for. Thanks though.

No problems Scott...Personally, if you do opt for the 32gb version, I would opt for John Lewis as per my link, partly for the 2 year warranty and especially for their customer service that I have received - had an issue with father in laws PC bought from them and no problems at all with having it sorted out...

Good luck with your choice :)

Thanks mate. Good to know about the 2 year warranty.

Yes and worth it for peace of mind. Don't forget though, the JL offers run out tonight - I'd double check Argos / Currys to see when they run out

Got a apple i pad air 2 64gb in grey for 355.50 from play.com or whatever their new name is. Here's hoping it arrives. Haha.

Not learning games mate I meant using the pen and learning math etc. He won't be on it very long anyway. It's not the usual purchase as a babysitter. We like our wee boy being active which he is right now but since every child he knows has one it didn't seem fair not to get him one when he asked.

what are kids exposed to at there school?
I would have thought that would be a good place to start?

He's not at school and is learning perfectly well in nursery and at home but if he wants an ipad I'd much rather he used it for learning rather than played lego games. No doubt he'll get a shot at those too but not till we learn a little bit of whatever subject we choose that day.

True. But what do kids get exposed ro when they do start looking at tech I was just thinking alligning the child with kit as per what to expect would be prudent

No mate it hasn't. It was meant to ship on Friday and there's no update so I've emailed them. Bit p*** but I don't mind waiting but will need to make other arrangements if it's not going to arrive. Not worried about that though. I just need to know. That's the first time I've ordered anything from play who are now rakuten but it'll be the last if it's not sent soon. It says there can be a delay after black Friday so again I'll check how long then take it from there.

Hopefully won't be too long - as you say, not a major problem as long as you know approx how long it'll take

It arrived today folks and it seems fine. It's been clearly shipped from abroad as I've plug has a UK adaptor but apart from that all is well. I checked the serial number and it's genuine so all is good.

Very good, hope you both enjoy it - we all know dad will have to make sure it works

Haha just installing his apps just now. First apple product as I'm a android man but it's impressive.
