If all goes well I am looking to buy an iPad 4 for the wife`s Birthday, more as like the 16gig version. Does anybody have any experience of purchasing from an online shop, any good deals about anybody to avoid even  I was also wondering if it was worth buying one from somewhere in town, be it an Apple store or PC world etc, and asking what incentive would there be for me if I done the deal there and then.

Pc world at the moment have a three month digital subscription to the times for 1p when bought with any tablet normally costing £55 which is really good value if you read the times.
It all depends what your wife is going to be doing with it otherwise she may fill up a 16Gb really fast and with ipads there's no way of increasing storage legitimately at the moment.
I would definitely recommend a decent case from belkin etc rather than a cheap one from amazon. I made the mistake of buying a cheap one well £16 and the case wouldn't shut properly and with the autowake on the battery would drain.
I've now bought this and the quality is amazing and the stand is so useful and for an extra 11 pounds I wish I had bought it in the first place

You do know it was Rich posting don't you?

Another vote for John Lewis. Extra year warranty and if like me you get one with an issue then they swap it with no grumbles.

I think its what they used to call customer service ;)

They also price match local businesses too. John Lewis as everyone has mentioned have great CS

As has been mentioned, the Apple refurb store is the way to go for the best deal.

Also if a lot of apps are going to be installed then the 32Gb version makes more sense for the iPad 3 and 4 since the size of apps has increased to accommodate their retina displays.

Before you commit yourself, think about Music & Photos and the space they will require.

I have 10,500 music tracks (MP3's), rock, pop, classic, panpipes, country etc and that alone eats up 28Gb of memory on my 64Gb iPad.

You could always go for external storage such as Seagate 1TB or maxell airstash.

The downside is that it is something else to carry around, the upside is that you can store a lot of data and share it with other devices such as iphone.

I have the 64GB have used about 15gb since New Years, I have a couple of thousand pictures on it at moment, plenty of music and tons of apps, I wouldn't get one which is less than what I have.

Depends what you use it or though as I bought the wife one for valentines, just the 16gb and she is no where near half the limit, but then she does not use it for high res photos and the likes.

You can get the camera connection kit for the ipad4 and run memory cards through it, I do that for pictures I do not want on the iPad

I've got 32GB, and it is using less than 8, mainly the OS and a few apps.

Storage capacity becomes less of an issue if you use iTunes Match.

You are 100% correct. My iPad is the cellular version, but if it wasn't I'd just tether it to my iPhone.

Tethering is what I do when needs be. I also have my laptop set up to act as a virtual router if I have a wired connection at a hotel for example.

Best £20 or so I've spent recently is for one of these:

Took it to Japan recently where only wired was available in the room. Performed flawlessly and allowed me to share the connection between 2 phones, a tablet and the PC. Best of all, the PC didn't need to be on (or even in the room - I was working there and Ms arad85 was able to use it whilst I was at work).

It's also good if you only need to have a single item connected. You are no longer limited to placing the PC anywhere the cable will reach...

Mifi FTW :D

15Gb data a month for £11 :)
