Yes
hey guys and gals, little question here for you.

I am tempted to purchase an iPad and originally looked at the 16GB wifi version for £429 however i notice that for another £100 you can get the 3G version, i would occasionally find a use for internet on the go and so i am considering this version however this is my question; how do you top up the ipad? if i bought it at the orange store will it have an orange sim built in and then i top up every month like a phone or does it require online top up?

cheers for any help!

At a guess I think it may be like the dongles are. You get to go on there homepage for free and you top up via your debit card from there.

It has a built-in settings panel where you can see your balance and top up using a credit card.

3G version also has GPS and compass.

ah cheers for that peeps!

so all i need to do is hook up my card to the ipad and it can do it every month then, well thats one thing sorted. just got to wait until i get paid very soon!

Also worth mentioning that the ipad is unlocked, so even if you bought it from the orange shop and it was supplied with an orange sim, if you decided to get a sim from another provider you can use it - assuming you haven't signed up to an 18 month deal for example.

The sim card is a micro sim and it is possible to cut down a full size sim if necessary - however all the uk networks supply micro sims for free usually.

Are you able to use a micro sim from a new iPhone in them and use it under the data allowance from the iPhone tariff?

A quick point on this.....

If you aren't going to be using the gps/compass, and your 3G use is only occassional, you could pick up a 'Mifi' from Three mobile for around £50. Its a little device which creates a wireless network that the ipad can connect to and shares a 3G internet connection.

Might work out a little cheaper, and can also be used to connect a laptop/playstation/other wireless stuff to the internet.

And only if you don't value it's battery life! Or are happy to keep it plugged into the mains while you're tethering it....

Cheaper than buying yet another data plan though!
