No
I'm in need of a new tablet and going to buy an iPad. Was looking at the iPad 2 Air 64GB. Version 3 is due to be launched later this month. What additional features might it have?

I can't think that I need anymore but will wait and see, and let 2 prices drop.

They might tweet the processor, possibly memory.

Maybe slightly thinner / subtle design tweet - wouldn't expect anything radical, they normally just fine tune / adjust them.

I think I'd wait to see what the new one is and if the 2 drops some in price and go from there...

With all those tweets, do you think it will be cheep?:exit:

According to macrumours, the main features are expected to be: "upgraded processor, a four-speaker design, Smart Connector, Apple Pencil support, and a rear-facing LED flash."

Any issues with the speakers on the iPad 2?

Apple have changed the face of photography. It never ceases to amaze me how people use them as cameras, but I think I must be out of touch.

Because we all need a flash on our iPads.

Oh brilliant, more muppets with their 10" viewfinders on show to the world....

I'm interested to (hopefully) see the release later this month. I have an old iPad 2 (2011/2012) that's still working but is slow and 16GB HDD size is limiting for photography. I'm trying to work out what benefits an iPad could bring for photography, Apple seems to limit functionality to make a versatile tool. I would love to incorporate some kind of workflow into a tablet so it wasn't all done on the desktop. If there was a way to use it to check image whilst on the go and back them up to an external HDD.

New charger connector, still no built in external device connector (without using a £25+ adaptor and obviously an iPad 2 one won't fit), more bells and whistles.

It will be built from the ground up (what a load of horse s*** that statement is, did you build the capacitors from scratch etc no!!!!)

It will use the Lightning port for headphones (maybe) to make it thinner.

Whatever processor it has, it will make you think how could you ever mange with the iPad 2. It will be x2 the power.

It still will be a locked doe system despite Steve jobs being dead (and he was the only clown to believe this is what people want)

x2 power to browse Websites, stream from Youtube, etc. Why would I need it?

I've been using it for years, as I have with my Android Devices, my Microsoft Tablet and my Linux devices....Still don't know what people mean by a locked down system?? Whatever it may be, it never stopped me from doing anything I needed to do. If anything almost anything is easy, faster, and more stable on those devices...I can't believe grownups still drag out that nonsense.

what i want and what Apple supply are two different things. Apple have become stale over the past few years unfortunately

Exactly, I have an iPad air, and have not much reason to upgrade. Stereo speakers would be nice, so would fingerprint unlock, but not worth the cost of buying a new iPad. And the lightning connector for earphones is strange move imho. What is the advantage in moving the DA converter from the phone to the headphones?

See post #14...

If that is what you use it for then, no you won't need to upgrade. However there are many people who use it for a lot more, have corporate applications on it, do all sorts. And even in your limited use case you should take a look how teenagers use this. Much different compared to old folk who just do a thing at a time.

You probably wouldn't.

We have an old (first gen maybe, not sure, they all look the same) iPad. Unless you have more money than you know what to do with, I don't see why anyone would ever upgrade an iPad. The new ones get a bit lighter, and have some slightly fancier insides - which are hugely limited in what they can do by Apple's design and software choices. For media consumption, and browsing the web, the older gens are fine.

I'd like to get back to the old days where Apple used to release stuff nobody else had even thought of.

Faster/higher res/thinner/longer battery life - meh. Give me something interesting.

All it needs is either a USB socket (probably too big) or card slot so that you can get stuff on and off without having to use the wretched iTunes thing or iCloud. They'll never do this because they can't admit to being wrong about it so a great product is shackled, they have to know this. I know the future is mobile and use several of their mote apps but I don't want to increase my iCloud account and I don't want to pay a monthly fee to ensure that I can get to my stuff when i need it when I could/should be able to load it from a card or stick. Now they're trying to push it as an alternative to a laptop which means buying extra stuff so you may as well buy a laptop. Sorry I know I'm ranting.

You can connect a card reader.

Which is an extra £25. And an older one for previous iPads needs an adaptor - which is £25...

Well observed!

I was highlighting to the previous poster that you can connect sd cards, and you don’t necessarily need to go through iCloud / iTunes.

You can also copy via wifi if you prefer that. Many ways that lead to Rome. Other than using the camera connector I've never felt held back by that. Funnily enough my nexus tablet also doesn't have that build in. And funnily enough not an issue either.

I'm using a 32GB iPad 4 (occasionally with an external keyboard) and find that perfectly adequate for what I do with a tablet and have no wish to change it anytime soon.

Like a Google Nexus 9 for example?

Well I have a Nexus 10 32GB. Great display. USB OTG OK. I was fine until the Lollipop update which messed up the WiFi (dropouts, and various issues at 5GHz). It is exacerbated at my home location due to neighbouring access points on 2.4GHz. Main reason for me to get an iPad is there are some specific Apps. I need to use

Which is exactly my point, no microSD card on that one either ;) Just change your channel for wifi, which reminds me so should I ;)

I have changed to a channel where there is no other traffic. Still drops out. Its a known problem with Google Nexus/Lollipop.

Weird mine seems to work just fine, and if it is a known/common problem and as it is the source for all android then surely all/most devices would be affected?

You would think so. However, there are lots of stories on the Internet from users.
