Yes
As per last year with the original iPads, there will be loads coming up for sale with the sellers wanting really high prices.

Try and sell just before the iPad 3 released.

Prices to drop as soon as the iPad 3 is announced at the same price as the iPad 2.

I think it depends on where you sell it tbh. If on ebay then yes, your argument holds as the place will be full of idiots who have no idea a new one is imminent. Sell it on more specialised forums though, like we sell camera gear on here, and everyone will be pretty clued up about the new model arriving very soon and will thus offer accordingly.

I'll most likely be selling my iPad2 to upgrade but I'm not really bothered about doing so before the iPad3 announcement as I don't believe it'll make much difference in the places I plan on advertising it. Besides, it's going to be announced on March 7th but won't be available for a good few weeks after that at least, meaning if you sell before the announcement, you'll be without one for a while.

I think the original iPads are still selling at pretty high prices and the iPad 2 seems to hold its value well. It doesn't necessarily mean prices of older stock goes down when new models come out. ( Shame cos I would like a nice cheap iPad 2 soon!)
I have noticed that people are still trying to sell their iPads at prices higher than the Apple store sells the same model refurbished with a 12 month warranty.
Ebay seems to be the worst at this as it is now with most things.

there is an idea around the traps of the possibility that the iPad 2 might be kept around a little as a different pricepoint to the iPad 3.

if the rumoured specs are true, then i guess that is possible. With the ipad 3 being a little more expensive than current 2 prices, and the 2 drop a little (little!) and kept on, for at least a few months longer than usual.

plenty of rumours floating around at the moment, including 7 inch iPad.. so who knows.

The iPad 2 will keep its price more then likely because it's not long been out really, when the iPad 3 comes out most people will buy it but the people who have only just got the iPad 2 will properly keep it and see no point in buying the iPad 3 cause all it will be is one or two more features added and maybe about faster but the iPad 2 is fast and brilliant any way, but if your going to sell your iPad 2 rather sell it on eBay or gum tree
