iOS8

I've made changes to the background updating, didn't make much difference to be honest, I honestly think iOS8 was far from ready, and even the Android L preview running on my N5 is more stable. 4 reboots today on my iPhone, each one required to get mobile data connection working again... :(

I have found it's often one particular app which knackers mobile data. Mine is usually stopped by Waze. Generally mine has been ok apart from fb and rightmove apps being crashy but they're generally fixed by being deleted and installed again.

Laggy Internet, drop outs on 3G, the screen not rotating on the home page, multiple crashes, very slow page loads, blue screen of death, high battery drain plus others.

I wish I hadn't downloaded it for my I pad 2, and awfully glad it's not for my I-phone 4!

Oh dear. That'll teach me

I really think Apple took their eyes off the ball when it came to IOS 8, concentrating on iPhone 6 and that watch thingy, the problems with some of the promised features not being ready (SMS messaging/Icloud photos/health apps etc), then the disaster with the recalled IOS 8.01, and they've had loads of Joe Public beta testing/developers, one would have hoped some of these problems would have been identified/rectified on launch.

Alongside all the other problems of bendy phones, hacked photos, it's not been such a good couple of weeks for Apple.

To paraphrase the immortal Danny Ormondroyd "if Steve Jobs were alive today he'd be turning in his grave'

It runs perfectly on the iPad 2, so I would suggest a problem with the update or a bad app running. Did you do it OTA or via iTunes?

If OTA, go back and redo it through iTunes, for some reason it always seems to cause less problems that way.

Although this is possible, I never experienced this with 7.1 or 7.01, whatever it was.

Having used Windows Phone for the weekend its surprisingly good and polished now, maybe a change is due for my company mobile :)

Hi Dave1,

Thanks for this and I have tried through I tunes.
Unfortunately no joy.

I'll try removing various apps and restarting each time ( time consuming but I use my pad for business a lot so it needs doing).

Cheers
Dave

Just installed the iOS 8.0.2 all seems well yet again.

@Dave I wouldn't advocate removing apps and restarting each time. It is not a pc and they don't change the startup scripts or anything. If the state gets restored through iCloud I would just close them down and see how you go. Don't forget all indexes need to be rebuild so it can be s little choppy for the first few hours.

Funnily enough the home page decided to right itself today completely out of the blue.

The pad is still laggy with the mail keyboard especially so, if it doesn't crash that is.

IOS8.2 is available now so I'm going to download that and see what happens.
Will report back if there are any problems.
Cheers
Dave

Downloaded IOS8.2 and lo and behold.
Quicker, less laggy, no freezing so far, rotation works ok, and other niggles are so far so good! :)

Hope everyone else has their IOS problems cured now!

Spoke too soon.

Downloading some classical from i-tunes it just crashed and threw me out

But it did carry on downloading, so be warned peeps.

Very very odd. All is working well on our 4s, 5, 5s, 6+, iPad retina, iPad Air, iPad Mini Retina.

No issues whatsoever. I reported issues during the beta especially around car connectivity and the all email inbox but those are fixed now as well.

Hi guys, pop 8.0.2 on now, it irons out all the little annoyances many of you have mentioned

I found that 8.0.2 helped the rotation lock problem, and battery seems to be a bit better (although still not iOS7 level), will just have to be patient I guess. Although shareholders losing 23 BILLION! may think otherwise lol

My iPhoto doesn't work since downloading ios8, any ideas anyone?
Didn't you get the popup messages when trying to launch iPhoto? Mine explained what happened.

Yes I get the pop up message, but I used iPhoto a lot for adjusting exposure and brightness which you can't do now, so it looks like it's back to the drawing board until something else is released, a bummer really but still nothing can be done about it

Yes you can. When you click on the edit button at the photo. You've got more editing controls than ever before :)

Like the health kit app , probably never use most of the features, but nice to be able to see walking distance/steps at a glance.

Can't see anyway of changing distance measures from metric to Imperial though?

Safari is still awful on 8.02 upgrade on my iPad.

Halfway through a credit card application and it quits, so can't reapply so now got to phone the company which is what I was trying to avoid.

It's also so slow typing in forms.

Just upgraded the iPad 2 for both the wife and I

Upgraded via iTunes to 8.0.2

All I can say what a mistake that was, both iPads have slowed down massively, apps are very slow to open and react, battery charge is abysmal - have had to charge both iPads 3 times in just 1 day because of the drain.

Wife's iPad also seemed to lock its self into landscape mode and wouldn't rotate, had to turn it off and on again to fix it

Is there a way to put the old ios back on them?

Have you restarted it yet? And have you given it some time to settle, rebuild the matrices and download apps? Or is this just first reaction?

Oh old iOS is just a case of downloading it to your computer and hold the alt or option key in iTunes and select the previous version that you downloaded.

It has been a few days now, have restarted both iPads etc.

Will give it a couple of more days but I have to say I am disappointed so far, never had a problem with the iPads and updating before

Thanks for your help, it is very much appreciated

Hmm if it has already been a few days then that is not good indeed.

To go back is as per above.

It would seem that Apple has closed the door on being able to downgrade

I've got a developers account perhaps that is why I have it. Just do a google. Plenty of ipsw images around for every version. Then do the downgrade as per above. Heck you'll even find a 8.1 beta image :p

Apple are not "signing" them any more so the downgrade process no longer works

Ah I stand corrected then. That is pretty s*** when 8.0.2 doesn't work well. Perhaps take it into an Apple Store and show them how terrible it is.

I think it is partly a memory issue. I have noticed apps tend to restart afresh more than pick up where they left off. Makes me assume ios8 takes up much more of the working memory so you can't have so many things live as you did.

No problems at all on an iPad 2 here.

I'll check the battery stats when I get in, but I think it's only been charged once in the last 3 days.

My iPad 4 cellular has had a marked improvement, this is today's use:

Went to iOS 8 on my iPad 2 this morning.

Battery is only showing 97% despite the fact that it's been plugged in since then.

Is this what others have found ?

Battery life on mine has been fine. IPad mini though. Worth turning it off and on again. Check the lead on the charger too as mine started not charging fully and the lead was duff. Changed that and it was fine from then on.

What is infuriating is the sudden freezing of the UI so it won't respond to pinch to home screen gesture and links in Google searches sometimes just don't work.
