I thought that wasn't arriving until October?

Perhaps I'm reading it wrong?

iPad took ages. Mostly preparing the update. Think the slow loading on here is that tapatalk app nag?

Seems to be every page. Like wading through treacle. Facebook app also took an age to load. I'm assuming it's doing some indexing or other housekeeping. I hope so. If it remains like this ill go spare!

Installing over itunes... that sounds really weird to use music player software to update a tablet. Who could have thought it was the only way to update apart from deleting all [useless] music on the device. We'll see if it looks and works any better than the retarded iOS7.

Why do you even bother to open an iOS thread when you are obviously only looking to troll for an argument?

Seems a crazy waste of your time...

Having been using iOS 8 & Yosemite since the start of the beta phase, I'd have to say Handoff and Continuity are fantastic. I've found it very handy to be able to just load the page I was browsing on the iPad Air over onto the MBP so easily. Similarly, being able to receive SMS and phone calls on the iPad has proven useful, given it's pretty much guaranteed that the only time I'll receive a call is when I'm downstairs, and the phone's quietly buzzing to itself upstairs. Only downside has been unreliable WiFi operation on 5GHz, but they'll nail that bug sooner or later.

BTW, if you're looking for a nifty tech demo that shows off iOS 8's new Metal graphics API, have a look at Epic's Zen Garden. Rather cool.

Interesting definition of 'troll'. I have put forward a simple observation and question about an apparently pretty daft implementation. Did I have to praise them about it to keep you happy? Maybe someone want to swap a mint ipad 3 for a Samsung?

Coming into a thread for the sole purpose of making an argumentative post using offensive language is trolling, yes.

Perhaps because my devices are marked as developer devices. If I recall correctly this has been working for me since late July. In an earlier beta it did it for phone calls as well over 3G :) but that stopped...

I'll leave it until the weekend I think, hopefully the rush will be over by then.
Best suggestion made on this thread by far. There are no prizes for being the first to install this update guys.

(Edit - oh see what you mean. Few odd bugs too, using the breadcrumb to navigate jumps the cursor into the reply box)

Like it in Safari too.

Facebook app is dreadful, has been for the last few updates. Seems to be rinsing my battery too.

Edits seem to be broken?

Video generally online seems flakey as hell (safari and facebook etc) too.

So I don't even get an apple to be among the first? :)

Well that was a painful experience, took overnight to d/l updates ( I should have waited until the weekend!!!)

And a disappointment, two of the features I was looking forward too was iCloud Photo Library, so every photo taken on my iPhone/Ipad would automatically sync across devices (iPad/Macbook/Desktop), Apple promised a lot with this, but seem to have dropped it for now (in response to recent high profile hacking possibly ???)

Also the ability to answer phone on my iPad/Macbook and send SMS messages to non iPhone users from my iPad/Macbook.

My iphoto already syncs photos across via photostream. Any I load on the Mac automagically appear in the stream and vice versa. I'm not sure what iCloud photos does that is extra.

SMS from ipad would be handy as a lot of my phone battery goes on SMS checking and replying to non iPhone users.

I was hoping iCloud Photo Library would do it seamlessly instead of having to go through iPhoto or Aperture to get photos streamed to iPad from Macbook or vice-versa. It promised a simple drag and drop on any device to get any photo to appear on all devices.

Ah I see.

The family sharing thing might make it do that perhaps?

Im still on IOS 6 on iPhone 4s And iPad.

:sorry:

Wonder if updating the IOS would cure my dead screen area on the pad. I doubt it.

Eh? I did an OTA update and didn't have to delete music on the device. So saying about iTunes "Who could have thought it was the only way to update...." is slightly wide of the mark!

All running a bit sloooow on iPad 3

just found out by accident that you can pinch to zoom out to view all your tabs in Safari.

just found out from one of our vendors that there is currently a peering issue within a UK providers network causing issues throughout the UK which may be down to some of these speed issues.

I did my 5s last night about 6:30. Downloaded in 10 minutes, about 30 or so "preparing" then 15 to install.

All seems okay so far for the most part, twitter seems to insist I have 3 notifications every so often though. Battery life today has been dire but I've been using it more than normal and some days I just seem to burn battery for no good reason.

Not keen on them removing the photostream and photo albums though as I don't like the photo view. Maybe the new app will be the answer when that launches but for the most part I'm using Lightroom now, just used camera roll to delete images to make space every so often.

Might do the 4s this evening but its my back up phone so no rush there.

Did anyone enable iCloud drive? I don't really know what it is yet and there was a warning about my other kit not working with the 5s until they upgraded. What's that about?

I enabled it. I can't see what isn't working. Iphone and ipad are on ios8. Mac is still mountain lion and cloud based notes etc sync fine. I'm assuming it is something else that breaks which I don't use.

Dont upgrade to icloud drive yet especially if you use a mac and want to still be able to share pictures etc. When Yosemite (mac OS) is released then thats the time to upgrade.

If you only using a iphone or ipad standalone then i can't see any reason not to.

Macworlds thoughts......

If you’re upgrading to iOS 8 on Wednesday, you must resist the urge to upgrade to iCloud Drive if you want to continue to sync your phone to your Mac. Why? Well, iCloud Drive only works with iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite. And you all know which OS we’re still waiting on.

Until Yosemite drops, upgrading to iCloud Drive will keep you from syncing devices running iOS 8 and devices running OS X Mavericks. Good news: After you install iOS 8, Apple will ask you if you want to upgrade to iCloud Drive. Tap the button that says “Not Now.” Easy enough, right?

You can go back and upgrade at any time, but unless you want a file-syncing nightmare on your hands, you’ll wait for Yosemite’s official release. You don't even have to take our word for it: Developers like Realmac Software and Bloom, which makes Day One have taken to their blogs to warn users about potential syncing problems and the lack of iCloud Drive support for pre-Yosemite versions of OS X.

iCloud Drive is Apple’s version of Dropbox or Google Drive, a cloud-based storage system that lets you share files across multiple devices and apps. You can even sync documents with PCs running Windows 7. iCloud Drive is part of Apple’s new suite of “Continuity” features connecting OS X to iOS—iCloud is the backbone for the integration. Recently, Apple dropped prices for iCloud users to encourage its use and now offers 5GB for free and 20GB for $1 a month ($4 a month will get you 200GB). Apple recently started issuing refunds for subscribers who were forking over $40 a year for 20GB.

Photostream pushes out photos just fine so I can't see what enabling iCloud Drive actually breaks. Certainly doesn't break between mountain lion and ios8...notes and calendar are just like they were before.

I'm assuming it breaks other apps that use icloud and not the ones I generally use which use dropbox.

All in all, I'll wait a year or two:eek:

I'm finding it very good, iPad and iPhone are both feeling much quicker and snappier in use. Definitely a good upgrade so far IMO.

Mine too about an hour to download. Seems to work okay but can't figure out the photo albums. I used to leave it on album and just have screen full and now it's grouping them and only showing recently added and can't see the 100+ other pictures!

This was the one thing putting me off.

However curiousity and all that, just updated and all my albums are there as before.

There are recently deleted and added piles as well, which is fine for me.

Really like the keyboard predictions too.

It wont be "any" of your devices until Yosemite is out, OSX is the missing link...

And I for one am disappointed in IOS8, not because of features or because there wasn't a massive overhaul of the UI... I am disappointed as it has now injected some lag into my works phone, as well as it noticeably draining my battery, and battery usage section shows Home and Lock screen usage at 67%!! Will investigate some other time..

Just updated my wife's ipad 2, went smoothly, and the iPad works very well with iOS 8. Again, feels much snappier and smoother than it did with iOS 7.1.2.

I'm finding battery life better on iPhone and iPad, I'm normally well below 50% by this time of the day (and actually had more than average use today), iPad is still at 71%.

Edit

Just seen the changes in the usage menu, definitely seems you have a problem, did you do a full update via iTunes or just an OTA?

My usage today:

That is to be expected following an install. Give it a few weeks. It is great. I've been running it just fine for weeks.

Unfortunately it is expected, Quality Control gone out of the window lol

Anyway, it's no biggie, I'll just factory-reset tomorrow :)

Same here, was sat my macbook tonight and randomly getting text messages coming though onto it, couldn't work out what was going on for a minute :D

Also to add I installed IOS8 on my iPhone this morning and it works far more faster than IOS 7 ever did IMHO, really happy with the upgrade, Anyone else also think the camera when you zoom in is more stable and less jerky? + takes better pics when zoomed in half way for sure IMHO

That probably explains why my text messages have been taking 3/4 attempts to send the message after failing even when having full bars of signal

Well after a few days of testing I have found since updating to IOS8 my battery only charges to 74% and then starts going down even when it says its charging and ends up sticking on 65%, great :S

Check what has background updating switched on. I'd also restart the phone. Seems to help fix quite a few gremlins.
