Looks like some cool new features.

I installed the ios6 beta, but it looks like the guided access hasn't been implemented yet, which is a shame as when my son uses my ipad he constantly presses the home button and it drives me crazy, hopefully it will be in the next beta

The new maps app is really nice though, and finally siri can launch apps.

I was just saying a few days ago how iphone needs a do not disturb feature, my mother in law is in canada and sends imessages to me that often wake me up at 3am, no matter how many times i tell her to remember the time zone she never remembers. This will be a well used feature

I was thinking about buying the TomTom app. Now I'll wait to see how well the satnav function works in iOS6.

The Satnav function works very very well. A few minor glitches with sections on the m1 not being shown, but it didn't affect the navigation.

I had lots I rerouting in central London due to me deviating the planned route and it didn't miss a beat.

Data usage for central London to Whipsnade was about 120kb download and 68kb upload. And that included a Siri conversation to reply to a iMessage and also using the "don't answer the phone but reply with SMS instead" feature which used an iMessage as well.

Yes all good in my experience.

Sounds very encouraging! I think this and what google offer will see the end of stand alone nav units. TomTom are already working with Apple on this new funcionality.
Just read that this WON'T be available to those with a 3GS or 4.

This is what I am also waiting for as my daughter uses my iPad and does the same!

its like they cant help it. He wants the app on, then presses the home button and then is sad that the app isn't there. You load it again, he presses it again and gets sad. Pavlov would have his work cut out

I am looking forward to this coming to my ipad and iphone........

Have the same problem with my cat! He loves the cat games but hits the home button too easily.

Just installed the beta 2 and guided access is working. It's amazing. Best feature ever. You can disable touch completely so I can now put a video on and no matter what my son does he cannot accidentally turn it off. When he's watching something he inevitably touches the screen when something he likes appears which then normally loads the navigation menu and he ends up doing something he didn't want to do.

I love it!

just thought of another instance where I will use it. We facetime with the grandparents every week and the kids always grab the device and turn them off, eliminating touch and orientation controls here will be excellent!

as long as my 3GS get the do not disturb and the new answering options im happy.

not very happy that my ipad 2 won't get Siri though, it's using exact same processor as the 4S.

Euggghhhh... That's almost as bad a turn of phrase as "inbox me"....

no its totally different.

Nobody has developed a program or product called "inbox me". They created emails and an inbox and someone turned it into a verb. But facetime is an actual feature of the device so to facetime someone is the correct term to use.

Hey Joe

I was picking up a used 3G for Hannah. Will this be too old ?

I only ask as I notice 3GS listed on the ios6 web page and I want to try and avoid the problem we have with her very old iTouch that can't take many current apps.

I take it my 4S will be OK ?

3g wont work, but 3gs will. I have a 3gs for sale if you are interested

in fact to answer yours and the previous op question, im going to install the ios6 beta on the 3gs now to see what features are on it

No, you use an application called facetime to conference with the grandparents. Facetime isn't a verb either ;)

I can confirm that the do not disturb and guided access are on the 3gs. cant see if the calling is as I dont have a sim in the phone, but seems like most things are on there, not the 3d maps, but the diections on the maps is there, obviously no siri.

thanks.

no 3D maps mean no turn by turn navigation? directions was already an option in the old google maps. or are you talking about something exciting and new.

It isn't a verb because it isn't.

that's a terrible argument.

A verb is a doing word. To facetime someone is an action, so why isn't it a verb?

Let's have an actual reason this time rather than you just saying something is fact without backing it up with anything.

it still does turn by turn navigation, just not the 3d flyover thing.

Is this the new route planning or the original manual turn by turn - for an iPhone 4 ?

The internet says so. See: http://BANNED/jetpacks/statuses/2105274655580161

you rest the case you never had you mean.

I the meantime I will continue to facetime as and where I need to, and continue to refer to it as a verb unless someone can prove it is not! :)

That's good news, saves me buying a satnav then,

Cheers joe

Sorry to butt in, but I'm looking for a 3GS Joe.... I've got a wanted thread... :)

I've had it running in a virtual machine since...well the beta was released...

Haven't had the time to look at the new integration with iOS yet though...I've got much better fee paying projects on the go at the moment :)
