iOS 6 tips and tricks you may not know about

I just uninstalled it as it never really did more than iOS maps lol

Looks like I need to stop being a tight Yorkshireman and buy a proper sat nav lol

Rob

Whilst the maps part of it leaves a LOT to be desired, I found the navigation (whilst basic) works fine.

Wish I did , every time I get to the m62/a19 junction it tells me to take the 4th exit on to m62, thing is coming from Selby the 4th exit it in to eggbrough not the m62. And that's just the start, I also find it can take forever to realise I've taken the turn it said so have missed the next turn more than once.

Also if you end up off the route it does not recalculate the route it just sits waiting for you to take the next instructions lol

Set Up Push Gmail or Hotmail

If you’re a true email addict, setting up Gmail or Hotmail through the preset “Add Account” dialog isn’t good enough, because it can’t immediately push new messages to the phone. Instead, you can set up these inboxes through Microsoft Exchange, so new emails get pushed right to your iPhone.

To get started, go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account… and select Microsoft Exchange. On the next page, enter your full e-mail address, password and whatever inbox name you’d like, then hit “Next.”

More options will appear. Enter “m.google.com” or “m.hotmail.com” in the Server field, leave the Domain field blank, enter your full e-mail address in the Username field, and your password in the Password field. Hit “Next,” and on the next page, deselect Contacts and Calendars unless you want to overwrite your phone’s existing contacts and calendar. Hit “Save,” and you’re good to go.

Ricardo told you on the 5th that the iphone 4 does not do turn by turn. You will need to update to a 4s or 5 if you want satnav using Maps.

I've updated my iPhone 4 to ios6 and I too am missing navigation voice lol
Rob

iPhone 4 isn't compatible with turn by turn voice navigation.

Eh? I know. I have an iPhone 4S. I posted an opinion of how turn by turn worked on a drive from Alicante to Valencia on the 29th of Sept.

It does do step by step but does not do voice or change if you go off route.

Now in my book step by step as you go is the same as turn by turn, and changing after a wrong turn is adaptive.

But I guess I just use different words you you all

Mine certainly reroutes if I deviate off the planned route.

My previous post didn't seem clear enough.

I'll try and be clearer, Rob you have an iPhone 4, the iPhone 4 is not capable of voice guided turn by turn navigation using Maps. As your iphone 4 does not have voice guided turn by turn nav, it won't reroute.

Step by step, as you call it, is just a journey planner.

If you want turn by turn satnav that will reroute you would need to buy an app like tomtom.

Ricardoforce has an iPhone 4S which does have voice guided turn by turn and will therefore reroute.

That clears it up no wonder everybody keeps telling me my phone is **** lol

weird. wifi or cellular? or both?

maybe try a network setting reset under general? (youll need to put your wifi passwords back in etc)

Wifi is fine, it's just cellular. I tried resetting the network settings and I've also turned off/on and it hasn't resolved the issue.

Is anyone else having tethering issues since iOS6? The link between my iPad and 4S rarely works without a network reset.

No problem here Neil, iPhone 5 to an iPad and an iPad mini, tethering on EE T-Mobile.

This is now resolved and appears to be an issue with iOS6.0.1 if you are wi†h o2.

Just in case anyone is having the same issue, the resolution is to go to Settings>Cellular>Cellular Data Network and change the Cellular Data APN from idata.o2.co.uk to mobile.o2.co.uk then restart the phone.

That should sort it.

It happens on all the other O2 networks like Giffgaff and Tesco too. For some reason ios updates mess about with otherwise working apn settings.

It's rather odd because I didn't have any issues when I updated to iOS6.

I remember when I got the phone, I got a text from o@ to say I had to change those settings in order to access the internet so I'm assuming it must be something to do with the way o2 work.
