Hi All

Has anyone with the iPhone 3G done the upgrade from iOS4.* done the update to 4.1?

After hearing that iOS4 slowed the 3G down a lot it never got updated, but when I updated my 3Gs to 4.1 the performance issue was mentioned as a bug fix. I don't want to take this 3G of iOS3.* if it's still slooooooooooooow

Don't do it. iOS4 is slow on the 3G no matter what version.

It's not too bad on the 3GS, but really, it's made for the iPhone 4 only.

When can you upgrade?

I got shot of my 3G to Carphone Warehouse, they paid £160 for cash. Which went towards the iPhone4 :)

my 3Gs is fine on 4.1, our 3G stayed on 3.* after the reports of slowness

I've spoken to people with 3G handsets and some said it's quicker again now while others reported no change.

Having just spoken to two 3G handset owners, this is inaccurate from what they have told me.

4.0 was a disaster. 4.1 is an improvement.

Agree with the above, the improvement in speed for the 3G phones was the main point of the 4.1 update:thumbs:

Mine seems much better now on 4.1 - over 4.0.1 - it is certainly useable now!

NO NO NO don't do it.
I upgraded my 3G to ios 4.0 and the phone really slowed.
In the end I actually mailed Steve Jobs telling him of my problems.
To Apple's credit they actually contacted me and I spent ages on the 'phone to a guy in California who acknowledged there was an issue with the upgrade.
He took a series of 'snapshots' of my iphone so the back room team could attempt a 'fix'
I got the heads up about 4.01 and have further upgraded, but to be honest it's improved it but not to it's original speed.
I'm prepared to live with the problem, but would suggest that you don't do the upgrade. There is quite a difference in the speed between my wife's iphone and my own. She also has a 3G running on ios 3.
And actually other than slow it down I'm unable to suggest any real benefit from the upgrade.
I'll stick with Apple but wait till the price of the iphone 4 becomes a little lower.

This is 4.1, not 4.0

Edited to add: You'll be waiting a while if you are waiting for the handset price to drop!

I upgraded my 3GS to 4.0 and there were no performance issues whatsoever. same with 4.1

My iPhone 3G went on 4.0 and 4.1 - still very slow.

I sat it next to a 3GS with the sane iOS and everything was much, much slower. I know the 3GS is more powerful, but the 3G was painfully slow to open the camera, load Safari and anything else really.

Your call.

I believe you can downgrade to 3.1.3 anyway - so it's probably worth a go.

I agree, it's ok on the 3GS. We are talking about the less powerful 3G model.
