Yes
Seems there's a wee update to fix a few issues.

:)

has anyone found that they have battery draining fast after updating to 4.3? seems an odd coincidence taht my battery seems to be drainging superfast since.

Now you mention it .... ...... NO! ...

I have to admit that I thought it was draining quite a lot quicker over the last few weeks since the last update

ive only just updated last weekend, and noticed monday and all week, im charging it up overnight and then having to charge again in the evening, even with limited use..

mines been like that for a few weeks before the 4.3 update, I put it down to a buggy app hogging memory because it seemed to last a bit better if I shut down all the apps.

I have to keep mine on charge in the truck during the day now.

I thought the battery was getting worn out already and even looked on ebay to see how much a new one was.

genius bar hippy told me to book an appointment if it wasnt better, ive not had it a year.

Turn Bluetooth & WiFi off if you aren't using them. Continually searching for networks and devices chews the power up.

The battery problem might be this :

The battery drain is caused by itunes Ping that is activated in 4.3..if you kill that your battery drain problems are over....

I've seen this reported on a number of websites including Pocket Lint, which has instructions for turning it off.

Navigate to Settings -> General -> Restrictions
If restrictions are enabled enter your four-digit passcode.
If restrictions are not enabled touch Enable Restrictions at the top of the screen then enter a four-digit passcode twice.
In the list under Allow scroll down to Ping.
Select Ping -> OFF

but surely if they aren't enabled (as mine aren't) it shouldn't be doing anything.??

Most, if not all, are turned on by default unless you have restrictions enabled and turn them off.

Definitely! My 3GS gives my the 20% warning by about 9pm. I do not have power draining features switched on either. I think I have seen a 50% increase in power drain speed since I updated it. Maybe it's because it's a 3GS? Damn you Apple !! :)

There's loads of people with iPhone 4, iPad and 3GS having battery issues. Funny how the hardcore fanboys are saying it's not iOS 4.3 doing it, and that you JUST need to restore the device, delete the mail accounts and start a fresh.

Because of multi-tasking since a couple versions ago, most apps that are run will continue to run in the background unless you kill them off. Some of these can continue to use resources - and deplete the battery. It's this that is the problem, not a specific version of IOS or any deterioration of the battery over time.

/edit. But BT and wifi are best turned off if you aren't using them.

I've killed the apps, and even in airplane mode I lose about 10% an hour with the phone on stand by.

Then it does sound like you have trashed the battery :(. I'm updating mine now so i'll top them up to 100% and check after an hour.

There's def an issue with your handset/battery. My phone has been off charge since about 9am and is still on 100%. I've taken it (and my 3GS before it) on long haul flights and even after 18 hours door to door without charge, a lot in flight mode but lets say around 7ish hours of music/video use and I can still have battery left.

The only app which I find nails my battery is Runkeeper which uses GPS & constant 3G/E/GPRS to locate and trace/publish my runs live online and I usually have music on at the same time and that probably only goes through about 10-15% an hour.

I'm only iOS 4.1 though, not sure if that makes a difference.

Also, I've used the app BatteryDoctor for aaaages which, apparently, maintains your battery to "max it's life." Never been sure if it's just placebo effect or what but it does feel like my battery lasts longer than it did prior to using it.

Noe that you mention it, my sister has iPhone 3GS and is always complaining that the batteries going down dead quick...she's on the latest OS too...

Still 100% after three hours. One short phone call, one incoming txt and a dozen incoming emails. V quiet even for a Saturday.

Brian. Your battery is badgered, mate.

problem here though John, mines the same as brians, on an 6 month old phone 4, i doubt thats a borked battery already? i'll knock all the ***** on the head and see if that helps but it was down on charge after an hour, its on 60% now and was fully charged this morning. bluetooth is off, and genius dude showed me how to kill apps so none are working. i'll turn ping off, but if this keeps up then its off to apple

did the above, turned all the stuff off, 4% used since 4 pm with some instagram, twitter and email use..that ping thing is evil.

Anything that uses location services or notifications is liable to suck the life out of your battery. I've had a fairly quiet day and I'm currently looking at 80% remaining since unplugging it at about 9ish this morning

Been on overnight, 90% still, looks like the issue is sorted

my iphone lasted nearly a week without a charge even with a fair amount of use but when i updated my ipad to 4.3 OMG i have to charge it every 2 days normally it was only at most once a week im hoping to new 4.3.1 update will fix this

However i am upgrading to the ipad 2 soon hoping it will be better

I didn't notice any increase in battery drainage when I had iPhone 4, better half hates her 3Gs now as it was bad before but is on charge twice a day now. iPad wasn't used much but I do think it needs charging more than it did.

Do wonder how i put up with the iPhones battery performance since leaving ship for Android. Xperia Play gets 1 charge in 3 days where as the iPhone 4 was on charge every night for same usage - WiFi always on, emails pushing etc.

A bit of an update to this thread :)

4.3.2 came out a few days ago and the battery life on my 3GS is much much better than it was on 4.3.1.

It's gone from being in the red at the end of a working day to still being around the 50% mark.

I have found that turning 3G and location services off, brightness 50% gets me a couple of days on an iphone 3G but I still charge it daily just incase I get caught short. Still nothing compared to my blackberrys 4 days :(

havent tried this update yet, will do in a day or so, its a bit of faff updating ipad AND iphone but will do.

Havent bothered with 4.3.3, it's only to switch the location recorder off, and I don't really care who knows where I am, far too much work to get my phone set up like I like it after the update.

(and I get almost 3 days on a charge so don't want to chance messing up power management with an update).
