My apologies if this sounds like a boost-me thread (cos it is :p) but this is a good moment for me and one I would like to share with the good peeps here.

Background bit:
As many of you know I take photographs from the air from my paramotor and is my first love in photography. I have gained some good sales and locally a fair amount of recognition for the images that I have been lucky enough to record.

Boost-me bit:
I have been invited to be a speaker at the Scottish Nature Photography Fair to be held in September. This fair is organised by Scottish Natural Heritage, is an annual event and if I am being honest I could not lace the boots of some of the past speakers. "Honoured" does not properly describe how I feel about their choice.

As well as being paid an appearance fee my travel and accommodation costs will also be met.

Slushy bit:
To get to this point where my work is now being recognised by a wider audience has taken a fair bit of work and an awful lot of help. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many people on these boards who have steered me through many a technical topic or two that helped me get more out of my photography and, importantly, helped me to get it right at the point of taking the image. The immediate feedback on what is popular and not has also been a lesson learned here. A point that new people to this forum should be aware off is that if you ask the question in the correct manner an answer will be found!

Thanks guys!

congratulations gary!

when and where is the talk, and can anyone come along to listen?

 well done

Gary that is absolutely chuffing great news. I've alway been an admirer of your shots, right from the start, and soppy or not, youve been a thoroughly jolly member and a pleasure to have around here

Congrats on the talk. Hows about getting it video'd then onto YouTube so we can all watch it :D

Gary, congratulations on what is a deserved recognition of your work.

Congrats HUN, is it your aerial photography you'll be speaking on?

My apologies if this sounds like a boost-me thread

It does sound like a boost me thread.. it sounds like your blowing your own trumpet... but why apologise. if I was you i would be shouting it from the rooftops.. whats the point of having good news and not sharing it or dare i say.. showing off... I know I would be... So nice one.. congrats.. you keep blowing that trumpet and maybe others will be inspired :)

Nice one Gary and well deserved IMHO :clap::clap:

congratulations gary!

Thank you!
Lorne Gill has said this in his original email; "The event takes place at the Scottish Natural Heritage conference centre at Battleby near Perth on the 6-7th Sptember. We run the same programme over two days with audiences of 130-140 each day."

Congrats on the talk. Hows about getting it video'd then onto YouTube so we can all watch it :D
Thanks, but no thanks!

Yes Steep it is about aerial photography of the Scottish Landscape. The audience will be mostly made up of Nature photography enthusiasts. I would imagine that I will be the only "birder" of my type!

Congratulations Gary, well deserved! I too would be interested in attending if possible, when in September is this and what time? I take it this will be held in SNH's headquarters in Inverness? Great building (designed by the Edinburgh office of the architecture company I work for).

Edit - just saw your above post! Was hoping it would be up here, oh well.

Hey!! :woot:

Well Done and well deserved, I'm sure you will give an interesting talk.

Well Done Gary. I've meet a few togs from TP that look out for your photos. Looking at the pictures of you in your paraglider (?) I can't imagine that it is that easy to fly, take photos and stop you feet from being in them. I Just wish I was up North to catch your talk.

As i've always said,

true talent will shine through and be rewarded in the end.

The fact that you're one of the nicest blokes on the forum and most probably in real life too will have helped.

Hope this is a start of a wonderful career for you.

George Steinmetz Look Out!

The Fair is at the SNH venue at Battleby, just north of Perth, which has excellent facilities. The other confirmed speakers are Laurie Campbell, David
Tipling, Alan Watson and Jose Ruiz from Spain. The same programme is delivered twice, once on Saturday 6 Sept and again on Sunday 7. I think you're expected to pay for a full day but it's not expensive.

If you're thinking of going, I think the best contact would be Betty Common on 01738 458541 or betty.common@snh.gov.uk

Beyond Words has been running the bookstall there for many years so do come and introduce yourselves.

well done H.U.N

any chance of a repeat - I'm away in September so can't get to see it :'(

you could do a tour!

Well done and good luck

A big  from me too and also a thanks for sharing so many inspiring shots here on TP. They've made a good choice for their speaker - just don't start with any of the jokes in OOF ;)

Wow! Not sure why some of your replies never came through by email but I have just caught up on this thread and am well humbled by the positive and appreciative comments. I am looking forward to the opportunity of revealing my "technique" and also meeting other togs who will no-doubt inspire me in other ways.

I see one or two here will be there - please introduce yourselves! I am sure at some points I will be a bit overawed by the occasion and will need to have certain information repeated to me - old age and all :D

Just need a couple more flights in before then ;)

Oh fabulous!

Really really chuffed for you. More than deserved too!
